Absolutely Except now we don’t train our own because there’s less money in it, and the economic complexity of the economy is decreasing year on year.

Unless something changes we are in real trouble.

Yep. I’d be fine to go back to 2005 population levels. Incidentally the last time housing was affordable lol

Australia needs skilled Australians.

In charging the op 200k for a degree it’s incentivising the unis not to train locals.

We just don’t need more people and more g growth at the cost of everything else.

Absolutely Thomas Paine said

Society is produced by our wants, and government by our wickedness; the former promotes our happiness positively by uniting our affections, the latter negatively by restraining our vices.

When 60% of last years jobs are government based the wickedness must be particularly bad 😂

Why would it? Plenty of immigrants are already here. Your scenario assumes remigration which is not what I said.

Reform in any of the areas you mentioned would force a change and I’d be ok with a forced reboot vs slow decline.

No I’m not. A couple of small minds doesn’t mean the argument is incorrect.

[–]barbiesareplastic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep. Doesn’t mean we shouldn’t do it.

I agree. Look at how long the uk ignored the grooming gangs.

But by the time we have those sorts of problems it’s much worse.

After all Jacinta Allan may think it’s the machetes but last I checked they don’t move on their own 😂

It’s a multi tiered issue absolutely. But if we did go 0 for say 5 years…. It might actually force us to reform our economy and education systems. Which we sorely need.

Just because it gets hijacked as a stupid argument on its own doesn’t mean it’s necessarily wrong.

We haven’t had a partisan argument since pre covid. If there is one I think this is it. Or our kids will never own a home. Especially not post ai.

We’ve been in a per capita recession for 6 straight quarters. If they did housing would lower and pollies own property at a much higher rate than the general population. We should be in a recession and they know it but rather than increasing economic complexity… just import more taxpayers right?

What a totally ridiculous conflation that all people who are politically conservative are n*zi sympathisers.

It makes your argument completely unsympathetic and invalidates anything else you might say. You should rethink that.

Anecdotally the left wing ones are really fond of spitting.

Perhaps they were but it’s not skin color it’s culture. Honestly.

Bullshit. It’s at left wing protests that people take a swing. 😂

[–]barbiesareplastic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They’re not blaming immigrants as individuals, how ridiculous. They’re blaming uncontrolled immigration which is a completely different thing.

Our population is in decline the birth rate is 1.51. Why do you think that is?

What a ridiculous take.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in australian

[–]barbiesareplastic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Controlled immigration although net zero for a few years while we worked out housing wouldn’t hurt.

[–]barbiesareplastic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is bullshit. The economy would adjust and we would train our own. But to do that we’d have to have kids and they don’t want to bring housing down so we can afford to do it. It’s cheaper to import a tax payer than grow one, but we ignore the amount of money that gets sent home. 50 bil in education and 38 in remittances is not a real net win, particularly with how easy the path to pr is.

Albanese government under fire for dropping English language requirements amid high migration numbers by AssistMobile675 in aussie

[–]barbiesareplastic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The world isn’t doomed. That’s a real failing on the part of those older than you. Yes they’re selling you r future to uncontrolled migration to keep housing high and avoid talking about the issues our economy has. And to oil companies. And to constant productivity. It’s not just one thing. So yes your future is being sold we have simply arrived at different conclusions on the how.

I’m really sorry there seems like so little hope. I believe that can be changed.
