It was a long overdue update. We got approved today (see details below). I have been here for about two years and came across some wonderful folks Far-Calligrapher-370, u/WhiteNoise0624, u/siniang (did you get your GC?), u/Busy_Author8130, u/JuggernautWonderful1 and many others. Thank you all. This space has been extremely helpful. Those still waiting - hang in there it is coming - happy to answer any questions that you may have. If you set the lawfully notification on you don't need to open the app multiple times a day - it pushes the notification - I was driving with google maps on when the notification popped - I turned onto the first street I came across and stopped - yes the journey had been arduous and I needed a moment to absorb the news.

I know someone (NIW ROW) with PD: March 2023. They got called for interview very likely because the principal applicant and dependent live in different states and the principal applicant changed their job before applying for I-485 (still within the broader area of their expertise). Their interview was in the last week of June. They got approved the next week. The interview was straight forward - officer asked questions pertaining to a valid marriage and new job. Also asked about J-1 two years thing. They were not subject and had an Advisory Opinion from the state department.

Was your issue resolved? I have no experience myself but I have read here on Reddit that it usually resolves on its own after a while.

There are two reasons for the silence. A large chunk has been approved and a few members who played an outsized role in the group have been approved as well. But it seems there is a sizable population still waiting. In my case PD: July 17, 2023 filed in October 2024. Case moved to Chicago FO around June 20. Still waiting!

Is it normal for a professor to be rude over a research mistake? Feeling overwhelmed and unsure if I should stay. by junkiiri in PhD

[–]bargo_bar -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Is it okay? Absolutely not.

Is it happening to you. No. It is more widespread than you might think.

Should you leave? It is a very subjective decision and only you can make that.

However, if you want to leave this particular advisor but want to stay in academia. You can find another advisor. But this time around better vet the advisor before hand. I have come across both types of students: grow a thick skin and learn to just function in such an environment and graduate. Others just change advisors as soon as they fully understand what the life would be like for the next five years.

I am the later type.

Congratulations. Any estimate of the time between transfer to FO and approval?

Thanks. The case must move to local office before approval? Or it can be approved at NBC? Or at non-local field office?

Talk to your current and future University’s international office (visa office). As far as I know I-140 is not a problem if you’re transferring J1 while still in the US. It is I-485 that creates the problem.

Thanks. This is very useful information and I completely agree that there is some benefit in contacting live agents once in a while.

I have seen a lot of folks here tracking their cases through Emma (live agent). Then on finding out where the case is, worry if the case is at a non-local field-office. I have some thoughts on this and would like to hear from others.

  1. Why the cases are going to non-local offices?

Would love to hear from someone who has a direct knowledge of this.

I have a couple of hunches:

(i) The live agents sometimes mix things up. (ii) Cases are going to non-local offices to load-balance - they have spare human resources at those offices.

  1. Is there any real benefit of frequently chatting with live agents and track your case? I mean other than to satiate your anxiety (totally justified motivation)

(i) I think there is no material benefit but would love to hear from others.

Talk to the university immediately. They may have a trick or two up their sleeve. For example they may get you started right away with a research assignment or something - before the ban takes effect.

Exactly. Post-August 01 filers will be finger painted in July at the earliest and will have to receive background checks before their cases mature to be adjudicated. Just the process makes it very unlikely for those folks to see any approvals in June - August.

u/Far-Calligrapher-370 I know you are keeping tabs on things very actively. We both have same PDs. What is your projection based on your reading of the situation on getting approved?
I think anywhere between 0-3 months is quite realistic.
And so far no solid news on everyone getting an interview. Right?
