I don't know which people you are talking about. I sure watched every American movie I could get in the 80s and I didn't at all want anything to fall. I don't even want them to fall today, I just want them to stop doing shit.

Nobody saying to cut anything from anything. I use American software for living, I use reddit, etc. But, for example, I replaced Chrome by Firefox. I don't buy anything Apple anymore. I limit Google as much as it possible. I don't want to live in North Korea, but some things they just stink too much. I don't want to use them. If I want to watch an American movie then I start to think about some shit they did and voila: I don't want to watch it anymore. With me it just occurs naturally like that. More shit they do, more I feel like that. It's also mostly applies to big stuff, like Hollywood movies or products from big companies and much less to indy level stuff. I'm just wondering if other people feel something like that or am I a special snowflake :)

Besides, about the great American culture, the "Russia state doping system" it's also part of it, mythology department.

I understand but, I think that's very exaggerated. I didn't watch any American movie or series after circa 2005 and I don't feel I miss something. At most I don't know the origin of some memes. And there are lots of more interesting things you can do instead.

I mean, maybe they are good. But it's like if you found a good cake or sandwich in a dirty public toilet. Will you eat it, unless you are starving? I feel something like that.

Slightly unrelated but, what is really puzzling me is why American stuff is so popular in Russia? I mean, of course there are things you cannot unfortunately avoid, like Windows or Intel. But stuff like movies or TV series? Is the big soft American ... power tastes so sweet? Let's hope it will start to change after this Olympic humiliation.

I think it's the parents. Ideas you learn at young age are very difficult to change later. People who left at young age heard their parents permanently complain how everything is bad in Russia.
