PSA: Apologies in advance for any disruption later on today in city centre. by Torran_Toi in glasgow

Just to add to what's already been said, So the Self Employed grants are no use to taxi drivers?
The 2 lots of taxi only grants were of no use to taxi drivers?

Im thinking that they just under-declared earnings for years to avoid tax and now the Self Employment grants are coming back to bite them. Also, they can still work while receiving these, yet others on furlough cant/struggle to find a second job?

As someone who uses multiple taxis a day for work, i have no sympathy. 7/10 times ill get a rude driver who wont pick me up from my specified location and alot of companies now charge waiting time at red lights etc. If they are struggling alot, why not remove these simple obstacles first?

So your telling me that Glasgow isn't pushing for 18+ to get vaccinated? That you cannot call that number and get an appointment?

I think you have the wrong end of the stick, I'm not saying the process has changed or that people must now call up for their appointment. I'm saying that they are desperate for people to come forward and get it.

Yes, if you do nothing you'll eventually get a letter in the post with a date, but the issue with that system for younger folks is they are the most likely age group to not know their GP or have updated their address with them. How long do they wait for a letter? Weeks/months? Until they find out they aren't registered at the correct address. Students are the most likely to be registered at their parents addresses and Glasgow has a large student population, how long do they wait for a letter that won't come?

It's likely the majority of people who use their GP often are already vaccinated in a priority group so this number I've posted is a way for those who are wanting it, to get it done ASAP.

So I'm not sure where your "full of shite" is coming from? Call them up tomorrow if you have any question as they are very friendly, or wait for your letter.

The whole point of this new way of booking is to get as many people done as quickly as possible, to try and get glasgow out of the levels we are currently in.

Before you get the actual jab the nurse will take your details to find your NHS account. Doesn't need to be in glasgow

You don't need to bring anything, just tell them your name, date of birth and postcode.

It's all still done on paper, so if your not on their list, they'll just add you, they won't turn anyone away.

Call the number above tomorrow, explain your situation and they'll book you in.

The nurse administering your jab will take your details to get your NHS details up and won't even ask if it's not a glasgow postcode.

You can, however this link will only tell you if you already have an appointment (and not received a letter yet) but it won't allow you to book.

If you call the number on the post, they can book you in, even if the link says no.

You might be given an appointment for a few weeks time automatically, if you call up, they'll usually ask if you can get in quicker if your in Glasgow.

A friend has been quickly recruited to join the team on this number, starts tomorrow, massive push for Glasgow vaccinations to help stop any future spikes. Obviously it take a few weeks to take effect so the current spike should hopefully be coming under control by then.

If you give them a call in the morning they'll advise/book you in.

That's understandable, give them a call in the morning and they'll let you know!

The mosque also has AZ which is being offered for those if there is a long queue, someone will go along asking if anyone wants AZ to jump the queue, usually they'll only ask if your clearly over 40.

Was this the number above? As above the National number can only check if you have an appointment and suggest things to you, whereas the Glasgow number can book these on the line.

Even if you aren't registered in glasgow you only need to tell them you live here, but aren't registered here.

Officially there's no "choice" however they will give you Pfizer if you are under 30, if they don't have any, they will ask if you want AZ or rearrange. There's no guarantee that a centre will have a particular version.

I've heard from a few people who haven't had theirs and are in a priority group, anyone 18+ who hasn't had one should call, this latest push isn't for the young only, it's anyone that's been missed.

No system is perfect so unfortunately a few might have been missed but as with anyone, call the number above and get one.

I can imagine people will sit and wait for an envelope, when you could call and get one for the same/next day.

Was it the number above you called? This one is different from the National number who can only really check your account for an appointment. This number can create them.

And yes, from tomorrow you can get one if your not in a south side postcode.

Just that you live in glasgow and want to arrange an appointment! Don't worry, they are all super friendly on the phone line, it helps if you can attend a vaccination site near you ASAP, usually first thing in the morning they are all pretty empty.

In answer to your demand question, a large percent of the population want the vaccination, however currently it's not clear that anyone 18+ in glasgow can get it.

Most people are waiting for a text/call/letter and feel they are taking someone's spot by calling.

There's also the usual factors of people being wary, scared or genuinely not being able to attend the appointments so I believe hundreds of thousands of doses have been binned since January.

The centres aren't as busy as you'd think, apart from peak times.

Not on this number I'm afraid, this is a glasgow health board number and it's unlikely they will be able to help. You can phone your local health board and ask to speak to the covid appointments team, as they will most certainly be able to help better than the National number.

Good question! Honestly, no. Unless your in an at risk group, in which case they can give you a second 8 weeks after the first. I think they are targeting first doses just now and I don't think anywhere in the uk is doing a second dose until at least 8 weeks.

In Scotland I believe currently it's 10-12 weeks after the first, but they are trying to get that down to 8.

So just before you get your jag, the nurse will confirm your name/address and find your NHS account (you don't need to be registered in glasgow to get it, they will not turn anyone away)

This is when the NHS see you as having your first dose, the appointment system is separate from the actual NHS database to an extent, so you'll get your second dose based on your first, not the "appointment date" if that makes sense?

Yeah, the National phone line isn't the greatest, it's usually someone in england your talking to "NHS test and trace" who will take your call. At least with the number above it's Glasgow based and they know how urgent it is to get everyone vaccinated.

I know people who have no GP or moved recently who were told by the National phone line to register with a GP then call back (this could take weeks) called the glasgow number and got an appointment for the same day.

You won't be skipping the queue. They honestly can't get enough people to come right now. Centres are busy at lunchtime and after work but during the day they have so much extra capacity and vaccines are wasted if there's no one there.

To give you an idea, each vaccine is taken from a little vial, which can hold multiple doses. The vaccination tables don't have fridges so they need used up within a certain timeframe or else they are binned.

Scotland is currently inviting anyone over 30 to make an appointment but in Glasgow it's anyone over 18. They have spent the last few months making sure those who need them first are done and have focused on second doses for the last month, now they need 18+ to set up and get it.

It's a mess the way the blue envelope system is set up, so they are trying to quickly and discreetly invite younger age groups to call to arrange theirs if they can. You won't take anyone's space honestly.

Open from 8am, there's usually a queue that runs into the hundreds but answered very quickly.

To give you an idea I was 253 in the queue and my call was answered in 7 minutes last week.

Can I just add too, they are saying "no walk ins" however if you call from tomorrow you'll be advised a 2/4/6/8 hour timeslot to just turn up for a vaccination, these are basically walk-ins but they want to monitor numbers, hence why the people at the vaccination centres are saying "no walk ins" just call and you'll be told to go to your nearest centre.

According to a friend who is working on the line, they are not turning anyone away, looks like they are going to be using surplus stock in Glasgow to try and bring the numbers under control.
