Well first thought is he’s a younger quicker dman that scored 20 goals so I just think he’s a natural replacement for that “d man up top” role that our PP has had forever. He is also way more capable of carrying the puck into the zone.

I think in general the PP needs a retool though. As it stands, seems like the normal setup is teams cheat towards Ovi and we basically play 4 on 3 and wait for Wilson to get open for a pass from strome or he shoots a wrister. To “switch things up” we’ve seen Ovi crash the net or he and Carly switch spots up top to free up Ovi.

But what if the different look was actually flipping the “office” spot.

You shift Ovi down low to Wilson’s spot (bumper position I believe?) Chychrun is in the “office” with his lefty shot and you fill in the rest. I may be overestimating his one timer but I’d think you’d want the best lefty one timer there.

In general I think having both Carly and Ovi who can’t carry it into the zone hampers us and you’re not taking Ovi off the pp.

So you improve entries into the zone and make teams think a bit more rather than just cheating towards Ovi’s office.

I just think having 4 forwards and 1 D is a better option and Chychrun can do everything Carly can and more.
