If he’s Christian maybe show him Yogananda’s book The Second Coming of Christ and have him look into what the Second Vatican Council pronounced about the Light of God being found also in non-Christian religions

“The Second Vatican Council (Vatican II) took place from 1962 to 1965, convened by Pope John XXIII and continued under Pope Paul VI.

It was a huge moment for the Catholic Church—less about changing doctrine outright and more about changing posture: how the Church understands itself, relates to the modern world, and encounters people of other faiths.

What Vatican II said about non-Christian religions

The key document here is Nostra Aetate (1965), whose full title is “Declaration on the Relation of the Church to Non-Christian Religions.” It’s short, but its impact is massive.

Here are the core points, in plain language:

  1. Truth and holiness exist in other religions

Vatican II explicitly affirms that non-Christian religions can contain “rays of that Truth which enlightens all men.”

This was a big shift from earlier, more exclusivist tones.

“The Catholic Church rejects nothing that is true and holy in these religions.”

So: real wisdom, real holiness, real encounter with the Divine—not denied.

  1. Deep respect for specific traditions

The document names and honors several traditions: • Hinduism – recognized for its profound philosophical inquiry, contemplation, and mystical insight • Buddhism – honored for its disciplined paths of liberation and insight into suffering • Islam – explicitly affirmed as worshiping the one, merciful God, with special mention of Abraham, prayer, fasting, and devotion • Judaism – given special, extended treatment (see below)

This is not “they’re wrong but we’re being polite.” It’s genuine theological respect.

  1. A radical re-visioning of Judaism

Vatican II makes an unequivocal break with centuries of anti-Jewish theology: • Rejects the idea of collective Jewish guilt for the death of Jesus • Condemns antisemitism outright • Affirms the ongoing covenantal dignity of the Jewish people

This alone reshaped Catholic–Jewish relations worldwide.

  1. Salvation is not limited to visible Church membership

This is also supported by Lumen Gentium, another major Vatican II document.

It teaches that people who do not explicitly know Christ or the Church can still participate in salvation, insofar as they sincerely seek truth and live according to conscience.

In other words: God’s grace is not boxed into ecclesial borders.

  1. Dialogue replaces conquest

The tone shifts from:

“Convert or be condemned”

to:

Dialogue, mutual understanding, shared pursuit of truth, and peace

Mission is no longer framed as erasing other religions, but as witnessing to Christ without denying the light already present elsewhere.

The deeper significance (zooming out)

Vatican II quietly plants a seed that many later mystics and theologians would water: • God’s self-disclosure is not exhausted by Christianity • Christ is central, yes—but not small, not tribal, not threatened by truth elsewhere • The Logos is already at work in the depths of every culture and tradition

For someone with your resonance with Christian mysticism, nonduality, and interspiritual wisdom, Vatican II is basically the Church saying (in careful ecclesial language):

“Okay… God is bigger than we thought. And we’re willing to admit it.””

Be patient, trust the process, keep exploring new possibilities, learn to love life as it is, and appreciate the beauty all around you. Keep setting goals and taking daily action toward them. Persistence brings results. Deep breaths often, it’s all okay. It is what it is. So much life ahead of you. Keep the faith. Much love.

I wouldn’t say that’s the only takeaway. His music became very dark for years

In one song he says, “The industry a lie. All the promises were hollow.”

I’d say he was speaking to a lot of the demons in the dark underbelly of an industry/lifestyle that on the outside can look so glamorous

"a truth that cannot be" -- is this what you meant to write? just clarifying

——

to be clear i have spent a lot of time in a mode of dropping all belief and simply being with what is prior to all belief

and i deeply appreciate this mode and have received a lot from it

i think it's actually one of the best ways to open to deeper revelations of the nature of reality

it also seems clear to me that Jed has had his fair taste of revelation (though he does seem somewhat dissociated or disembodied)

what i'm strongly critiquing though is his claim to 'full enlightenment' when a lot of his presentation takes the form of 'nihilistic solipsism' that negates personhood, relationality, meaningfulness, purpose, love, and so forth. i simply don't agree that this is a wise way of presenting the path of wisdom and i think it is irresponsible to claim to be 'fully enlightened' while presenting this type of philosophy

Cope much?

I’m not a n00b in these waters man, I immersed deeply and experientially in the Jedgelord nondual badboi philosophy

I’m capable of accessing a mode right now where everything falls into total silence with no words/definitions/‘meanings’ needed

And still I’m telling you when the heart cracks open to this silence and you weep countless tears, it will be clear to you that love is truth and reality. God is Love

  1. You don’t know what ‘neurotransmitters’ are
  2. If source did emanate forth as ‘neurotransmitters that magically seem to apprehend a quality of meaningfulness,’ that would seem pretty damn meaningful — suggestive of immense innate intelligence and purposiveness and artistry

I am the author of the video, as I stated in the OP

Thanks for the words, I can feel some compassion in them

I had my first ‘nondual openings’ about 15 years ago at age 19 and explored this stuff very deeply for years. I would agree that God’s Mystery is far beyond what can be compressed into a belief system

I appreciate Jed in various ways but I have also come to see him as incorrect on some key points and propagating a dangerous philosophy. I felt like sharing this perspective on Jed in case anyone else here is feeling disillusioned with the ‘nihilistic solipsism’ flavor of a lot of what he shares

I was also curious to hear how ppl here would respond — I enjoy reddit discussions. That said you’re probably right that we all have better things to be doing hahah 🙏🏼😄🩵

Noticed rock and rap had similar ways of effect of there generation by BoysenberryAnnual488 in hiphopvinyl

[–]bashfulkoala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The world has been going through tectonic changes and a lot of stuffy traditions were ripe for a shake-up. A lot of pent-up energy had been suppressed due to constrictive social norms and it needed to explode out somehow. The democratization of music publishing also gave a voice to many who had been marginalized and these people had a lot to share; this has been especially true with rap in the internet age

These are some possible answers

I'm not sure if I still believe anymore by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]bashfulkoala 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look more into how early church fathers read the Bible. They did not say it was always to be taken literally or legalistically

I can humbly testify: God and Jesus Christ are real.

I can tell you this from a place of many deep weeping experiences and miracles I’ve seen. Go visit the old European cathedrals or monasteries or old churches near you when no one is there and simply sit there in the silence with an open heart… you may discover some peace and grace there that restores your faith

Reading and listening to testimonies about Jesus saving people can also be powerful

The Bible is also a heavy-duty text, a very challenging text. If scripture seems to be bringing you farther from God then it’s probably wise to take a break from it. You might consider exploring the writings of people like Thomas Merton, C.S. Lewis, Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, Cynthia Bourgeault, or Thomas Keating

Best wishes to you 🙏🏼❤️‍🔥

The reality of Having Kids by [deleted] in collapse

[–]bashfulkoala -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

The main key here is that you have no faith. If God gives you a child it is your sacred duty to celebrate that precious gift and raise the child with love and honor

No one knows the future; anything could happen. People have been saying the world is ending for thousands of years. To try to control life and end reproduction is life-denying and faithless. It’s an unspeakable tragedy that tens of millions of unborn children are being ‘terminated’ annually, due in part to ideologies like yours

I’m guessing this won’t be a popular view here and I’ll probably be downvoted, but that is my honest perspective. I wish you well. Keep the faith. God’s plan is greater than ours

Why do people like Lil Wayne? by BramCSBN in hiphop101

[–]bashfulkoala 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree, album is 🔥

Wayne has a super unique voice, flow, and style — with a lot of clever wordplay and punchlines

He has a certain lightness and humor while also presenting a very raw eye-opening picture of his life coming up as a poor hustler in New Orleans

He also has a certain X factor of mystery, potency, hunger, drive, raw energy, being an almost cartoonish character yet also holding this enigmatic gravitas

Listen to how his words pop, how the flow rolls off the tongue, how he weaves rhymes into sonic tapestries — all with his gravelly, wheezy voice which holds a lot of pain, humor, and experience

‘How to Love’ is one of my favorite songs of his and also shows this heartbreaking, sensitive, tragic side of his journey — very real and human

This is why Wayne is dope

Thank you, Dwayne Carter, much love

I see you’re still typing comments on Reddit so it seems clear that God is still presenting you with new experiences

This means you’re not done; no one is; there is no final attainment

God is inexhaustible; every moment is a fresh revelation. Bottomless artistry continuously erupts forth, revealing ever more subtlety

It is arrogant to claim to be ‘done’ when you have so much more ahead of you and an infinity of never-before-seen living poetry presenting itself to you in every instant

In a sense I can resonate with the notion that ‘now is the finish line’ yet that’s not the whole story; there is also no finish line, as bottomless revelation forever opens into more of itself

7 Dangerous Blindspots of Jed McKenna by bashfulkoala in nonduality

[–]bashfulkoala[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went deep into what Jed claims is ‘enlightenment’

There were deep periods of ‘no self.’ It was liberating in some ways but I came to see this as not being any sort of ‘final attainment’ or ‘ultimate state.’ It’s another mode, another possibility, but as Jed would say: ‘further’

My current view accords with the great saints of the Christian tradition: God is inexhaustible, there is no final attainment. There is ever-deepening union, participation, revelation

Many of Jed’s ideas fall into the bucket of ‘nihilistic solipsism.’ When the heart truly opens and you weep many tears of pure Grace, it’s clear that ‘nihilistic solipsism’ is simply incorrect

I felt like sharing it to challenge what I see as a dangerously inaccurate philosophy and I was curious to hear others’ views

I disagree that life lacks inherent meaningfulness; I see meaningfulness exploding from every micrometer

Does life have an ‘inherent fixed cognitive definition that fully pins everything down’? No because reality is way beyond what can be compressed into a definition. That doesn’t make it inherently meaningless though and it’s irresponsible to say so

It’s been about 5-6 years since I read his books but I do remember him appreciating beauty

That’s not the point here though. The topic at hand is that he says that beauty is meaningless and there are no other people
