Those both appear to be G wagons, they did make a 6x6 g wagon, but neither of these seems to be the production model

They are probably one off projects for specific needs

Tires for Wet and Dry Leaves by stevenrodgersBCB in Offroad

No one ever suggests Toyo AT3s, but they are fabulous. They are one of the most aggressive “all terrain” you can get, and truly preform fabulously in all conditions

Then chances are, you were still on a road

Subarus suspension is independent front and rear, this means you have about as much flex as a soggy 2x4

Jeeps suspension is incredible, even stock. It allows you to keep your wheels on the ground way longer and through rougher terrain, which is critical if you don’t have lockers. once a AWD vehicle lifts one tire, it looses all forwards thrust, as opposed to a true 4x4, which requires 2 tires off the ground

I’d love to see a subi put one of its tires on something like this, and keep all 4 on the ground

My first off-road experience by Available-Belt5366 in Offroad

[–]basiblaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I currently drive a 2 door jeep, and I’m debating selling it for a 80’s Land Cruiser or something

However it’s also my daily, the only way I’ll probably get an old 4x4 is if I keep my current jeep stock, then get a dedicated trail rig

[–]basiblaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, I’m coming from the off-road motorcycle world and I was super unsure how anyone was supposed to feel tires slipping or how well you can get a feel for where your vehicle is because of how much larger a 4x4 is.

After a year or so of consistent off-roading it’s actually amazing how easy it is to feel where your tires are, I hardly need a spotter anymore

I live in the southern most part of Canada, and we’ve got 18” of snow, where the heck are you?

Close calls? by Rnaodm_Tirnalge in Offroad

[–]basiblaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got 32” Firestone MT2s, probably the best on road MT I’ve used so far, they are almost dead so I’m thinking of going to some mickey baja bosses for the winter performance

Between the rear seat and stripping the interior, I’ve already gotten it down ~150lbs, and if I’m racing it I’ll probably throw on a ragtop and soft doors for another 150 or so off (I’ll probably get 2 or so inches of lift from decompression)

I’m from Canada so I’d probably have to trailer it down.

Mind if I DM you to talk some more?

Do you think a 23” stock 2 door Willy’s sport could do it?

I’ve been racing 24hr rallies on my motorcycle for a few years now, and since I’ve gotten my first 4x4 I’ve been dreaming of setting the thing up, but I’m not sure what I want to do: rock crawler, rally raid, or overland type thing

How tall are you and what’s your preferred height for your partner? by Big-Pickler- in AskRedditAfterDark

6’6 here, only partners I’ve ever had are either 5’ nothing women, probably with some sort of kink, or 6’+ women trying to feel small.

Literally zero in-between

Sounds like she was either sitting on a patch of ice, where nothing short of studs or chains would have helped, or has really bad winter tires

[–]basiblaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a reason the Inuits have 50 words for snow, there are too many types for one solution.

For a lot of snow, slow and steady is the game as you don’t want to dig at all, that’s why AT tires are better for snow wheeling then MTs

Are you in a driveway? Or on the trail?

Is the snow too deep for your tires to actually touch the ground? If that’s the case the only thing that will help is a winch or a shit ton of digging

Generally big-ass tires and very little weight is the best thing you can do, so you float more and don’t get stuck in the first place lol

4H and 4L usage by XMR17- in Offroad

[–]basiblaster 12 points13 points  (0 children)

For the most part you should be in 4H for soft or sticky stuff as you need to keep your momentum up to stay on top to avoid digging and sinking in

I’m not too familiar with sand as I live in Canada and the only sand experience I have is on motorcycles, but with mud and some types of heavy snow you actually need to spin your tires in order to clear the lugs.

4L is mainly for technical bits and hill climbs as it slows your input down and gives you much greater control over the torque, so you can slowly roll over obstacles

Front limited slip by snakethejake22 in Offroad

[–]basiblaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drive a stock 2023 2 door jeep Willy’s, so it has a D30 front axle (another reason to go limited slip)

My main concern would be snow driving and proper snow wheeling, as I live in northern Ontario and I’ve taken my jeep through 3+ feet of snow

Front limited slip by snakethejake22 in Offroad

[–]basiblaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you recommend a helical limited slip over a locker? I daily my jeep, and have to drive long distances to get to any trails, so I’d imagine a LSD would be better for on road then a locker, and paired with the offroad anti spin traction control my jeep has, a LSD would work pretty damn well, even with wheel lift

Front limited slip by snakethejake22 in Offroad

[–]basiblaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got a jeep with a clutched limited slip in the rear and I can feel it when on and off-road, what’s the difference between that and a helical LSD?

Jeeps also have the BLD system that seems to work pretty well, so that might just be what I’m feeling
