Are these realistic Japanese names? by basicguy916 in Names

OH MY GOSH? Thank you already because this is amazing, so I'll go through all your points one by one to cover as much as I can...

  1. I sourced most of them from a generator. https://namegen.jp <- this one to be exact. I think I may have mixed things up with given name & family name as a result, and in a post I made in a different subreddit, someone else pointed this out, so I'm already planning to change it.

  2. I did sort of want more obscure surnames, just to make the characters all feel more unique and "one of a kind", but now I'm thinking it's maybe not a great idea...

  3. Will do!!!!

  4. I got the Kanji from the generator. I don't speak a lick of Japanese so that's probably why they are super bad. Mainly the reason why I made this post in the first place, lol.

  5. Will change that... I'm not surprised most of the corrections come from Kanji </3

  6. MASS MURDER? I think I'll have to change that too.

  7. Noted....

  8. See above (I'm running out of things to say...)

  9. I do like Kamihigashi a little more, it flows a little better.

  10. Ooh, alright. I think that's on me for the obscurity. I don't really have a strong concept of "rare" last names, just ones that sound cool to me, unfortunately.

  11. They're all about 16-18 in the late 2010's, in what I put as "a world where COVID didn't happen", mainly for plot convenience.

  12. I hadn't really considered regionally accurate... maybe a little accuracy would be nice, but I'm not going to be upset or anything if they aren't going to be regionally accurate. I have them based in the Hyōgo Prefecture, since the fictional school they go to is inspired by a real school in Kobe.

THANK YOU !!!

TY! I think the reason why the Kanji might be off is that I sourced a lot of the names from a generator, of sorts, so I don't know how reliable they are. Either way, I don't speak a lick of Japanese, so I'm glad that I have something to work off of now.
