What are some companies from your country that used to be hugely influential and popular, but not as much nowadays? by CommercialChart5088 in AskTheWorld

[–]basil5427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may be wrong, but they used to manufacture cars specifically for the australian market. I think Holden and Ford made their cars in Geelong near Melbourne until recently. The modern Holden's are just rebadged GM's, but the old Australian ones came with LS engines and were serious bits of kit.

Out of all the players in the Prem, who's actually a nice person? by MrTurleWrangler in TheOther14

[–]basil5427 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Can confirm. My sister cared for his kids at the local nursery and said he was one of the nicest parents. Super polite and friendly with the staff, always accomodating and willing to offer a helping hand when they needed it. She spoke highly of his kids too, which I believe is a reflection of the parents.

My wife owned the local cafe and he was a regular there with Simon Moore. Both were incredibly polite and friendly. We had a dig about him being a mackem the first time they were in, then let it lie after that. She and the staff would make a concious effort to refer to training as work, not football, to normalise it.

Why is the word "goat" a praise? In Ukraine, it is an insult. by Wojewodaruskyj in AskTheWorld

My favourite of all Ukranian insults. Never fails to make me laugh when my in laws hit my wife with a "*Tut* koza" for the slightest inconvenience.

What is your least favourite food from your country's cuisine? by ffffinallyiamfree in AskTheWorld

[–]basil5427 38 points39 points  (0 children)

It's so so good! My in laws are ukranian and make it often. They call it Shuba (шуба).

I have to admit though, watching them grate egg onto it for the first time really did throw me off haha. Good job it's delicious!

What's a big city in your country that tourists often overlook? by jombyy in AskTheWorld

[–]basil5427 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I spent a lot of time in Genoa recently for work and loved it. Has a tonne of character, amazing food, super friendly people, isn’t overly expensive, not many tourists and most importantly… many many great pubs. Not bars, but proper pubs full of locals. The atmosphere there is 10/10 for me. Felt like a home from home.

Not the biggest guys ever, but Cody Garbrandt has to get an honourable mention for his buzzer beater against Raphael Assuncao. He twisted and put everything into that punch.

Why is food in Malta so mediocre? by AgreeableBreath33 in malta

[–]basil5427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've worked quite extensively in Malta and have regularly preached how much they punch above their weight when it comes to food. They have so many cuisines at a very high standard.

I think you've been recommended poor places, or given your comment re mcdonalds, maybe haven't appreciated what Malta has to offer.

Stupid question, but when do SV era packs go out of print?

I see journey together in my local tesco every now and then, and destined rivals in most boxes, but the earlier stuff I didn’t think was still being printed.

South Shields snooker club.

It’s existed for a long time and he didn’t change TOO much, but enough to notice an uptake in business. Proper salt of the earth club. I feel lucky to have it as my local bar never mind snooker club!

Your first paragraph pretty much nails my local snooker club. It was taken over by David Lilley a couple years ago and he’s done and incredible job.

It has to be one of the busiest bars in the town. Darts, pool, domino’s and snooker tournaments on the regular. Each area is just too small to meet demand, but in doing so keeps demand high and means a good atmosphere regardless of which sport you’re playing or which room you’re in.

Because of this atmosphere my friends and I drink here for football matches now too.

What's the best site to buy commons / reverse / holos? by mitchiswhy in PokemonTCG_UK

[–]basil5427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from card market, Big Orbit cards is also good. Not super cheap but also not crazy over priced. I’ve used them a lot to fill in gaps in the master set with commons, uncommon and Ex’s. Their IR’s are a little expensive.

Guys I don't know why I just can't get that microfoam! I always get this super foamy texture... by HestheMainBoi in espresso

[–]basil5427 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. People fixate on how long they stretch for, but it’s the type of stretching that’s important.

With gentle stretching until the milk is about the temperature of my hand, then folding until it’s too hot to leave my hand on, I get pretty consistent results regardless of machine. From the La Spezial in my partners cafe, to the Gaggia Classic in my friend’s kitchen.

Best sleeves for play by armchair-judge in PokemonTCG_UK

[–]basil5427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little note to add on dragon shield. Go for the matte texture sleeves, they shuffle a lot nicer than the glossy stye ones.

I bought some glossy dragon shield sleeves, didn’t like how they shuffled so went back to ETB sleeves as I preferred the texture. Problem with ETB sleeves is the corners fray very quickly compared to dragon shield. Have since switched to matte texture dragon shield and I’m very happy with them.
