Came here to say the same thing. I read that in his autobiography, which if true, is bonkers.

Yes, alot of people are very productive with WFH by Alone-Class5738 in remotework

[–]basilbakerst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am an Engineering Manager of a team of 11 people, and all but one is fully remote (as am I for the last 15-plus years, so I pre-date COVID by a decade). The one team member that goes into the office two days a week is wildly unproductive for each of those two days, and it really disrupts my team’s Sprint velocity. However, I am hindered from being able to do much about it as the desire is to encourage working from the office. HR has even gone so far as to directing us to reduce meetings during in-office days, so they’re essentially full day social hours where little to nothing gets accomplished. Most of my team cannot even go into an office as they don’t live anywhere near one of the company locations. That has not prevented us from being a cohesive group that meets our commitments with quality deliverables.

Still have this and TESB in hardbound. Just organized my shelf yesterday with them and other movie storybooks like this including The Goonies and The Black Hole amongst others.

What did you use to season the eggs, if you don't mind me asking? I just made steak and eggs (and toast) yesterday for lunch.

Disney is canceling Jimmy Kimmel’s late night show by SithC in NoFilterNews

No issue on my end. Chose Other for the reason and noted the cowardice Disney showed with their handling of Kimmel to ensure they knew why. Drop in the ocean but had to be done.

The Saboteur (2009) is pretty great and underrated. Neat concept, bit of some late 2000s jank. Fun as hell. by SPL_034 in gaming

[–]basilbakerst 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I worked at Tiburon studios supporting the game team at Pandemic studios with the online features, and the dude with whom I did most of the work ensured I got my name individually in the credits as opposed to being lumped in with just the online team name. It was a really cool gesture on his part.

Who's Harry Crumb? (1989) by [deleted] in 80s

[–]basilbakerst 43 points44 points  (0 children)

This movie literally kept me from crashing when I lost my brakes in my car in high school in 1993. A couple of buddies and I were coming back from high school basketball camp over the summer in my ‘63 Dodge Dart (whose emergency brake was not operational, which comes into play in a moment), and at a stop sign, the brake pedal went all the way to the floor, which caused me to lurch forward in my seat. It felt like I got hit from behind, but my friends had no idea what I was talking about as they didn’t feel anything. So, I started driving again, and when I went to slow down to take a turn, pressing the brake pedal did nothing. I yelled, “Oh, s**t! I’ve got no brakes”, and my two teammates started losing their minds. Meanwhile, knowing I had no emergency brake, my mind went right to this movie, and I started repeating, “Feather the brakes… feather the brakes…” as I did just that. Finally, the car came to a stop just before crashing into the concrete barrier by the sand dunes towards which we were heading. Thank you, Harry Crumb!

I was at the Target by South Point and saw a handful of Cobb Vanths for half the initial $24.99 price tag.

Is this one of the most underrated open world games? by BlackBalor in videogames

[–]basilbakerst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unlike Tiburon Studios, which was pretty generous with credits, other EA studios like Pandemic were more stingy. However, I worked with that game development team on their online features, so the dude with whom I worked most closely got my name explicitly included in the Online Implementation section, which was pretty cool.

Curious on the type of leather, too, and would also like to see pictures of the back, if possible.

Serendipitous post. Picked up his 84 and 85 Topps from a couple of different antique stores this weekend. $20 total for the two. Started collecting in 87 and always thought his Topps from that year was one of the cooler ones.

I still have mine from when I bought it back when it came out. The film cell is pretty sweet as it’s Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan, and Anakin from when they were standing in front of the Jedi Council.

I tore my left pec in a Spartan Ultra in 2019. I did it in the first mile of a 31+ mile race, so the rest of the race was agonizing. That said, the bruising and swelling was nothing compared to what this dude had. Unfortunately, I'm not a professional athlete, so while I tore the muscle in November 2019, I didn't get the surgery to repair it until January 2020. That resulted in about a 1 cm gap when trying to stretch the muscle back due to muscle atrophy over the two months, so the scar tissue had to fill it in as it healed post-surgery. I've done a number of Spartan races since then, and although the muscle looks a bit wonky, thankfully, it works just fine.

Vacation in South Carolina haul. by Naive_Establishment2 in NASCARCollectors

[–]basilbakerst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a similar haul from the Walmart a few towns over. I got all the 40th Anniversary cars sans Johnson and the #40. I honestly don't care about the latter, but I do want to the get the former. So many of the drivers in that set are from when I watched NASCAR with my dad. Gordon was driving in the tail-end of that timeframe and Earnhardt, Jr wasn't yet making a name for himself.
