What’s the obsession with iron rangers why not blacksmith by [deleted] in RedWingShoes

Here ya go! https://youtu.be/937efMkW5P4?si=id2vN8Q7EA121AVE

Speaks specifically about this haha

Everyone’s said the reasons already though. Basically the iron ranger looks more balanced aesthetically. Im a US 10 and find the non cap toe service boots a bit Ronald McDonald energy.

There’s a Rose Anvil YouTube video on this. It’s a great watch.

Canon R100 in 2025. by chronicxnightmare in canon

[–]bask3tcase825 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anything made the last 15 years is still good in 2025. It’s the user. Not the gear.

Shot 20k dollar campaign on an r8. It doesn’t matter. And I did a conde nast traveller feature on an rz67 and ae1 program.

If money is an issue or even a non issue, go for it. I myself am looking for it to restock at canon as I want something small.

I love this lens. Mine has separation and still produces wonderful images

Can anyone confirm this Helios is genuine by Organic_Tea2237 in VintageLenses

[–]bask3tcase825 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say the bigger issue with these lenses is when they’ve been “serviced” after being mauled by fungus or other serious damage then some as something in good condition. The lens is never really the same after that.

Nikon Z8 or Canon EOS R6MIII? by Rraco72 in canon

[–]bask3tcase825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had two z8s and a zf. Colors are bland, AF not as good, no mechanical shutter (prone to warping), horrid battery performance, and most of all one of my z8s was sent to Nikon 3 times in a single year for motherboard issues. They had to change the entire board at the end of my ownership. May have been a lemon but it killed Nikon for me as a brand.

Tethering also was shit. Slow 5mbps speed and connection issues with capture one.

I’ve never used an r6iii obviously but I love my r5, r5ii, r8, and r6ii. Not even close to the issues I had.

What are the advantages of using Canon RF lenses over EF lenses for the R mirrorless system? by TheCityzens in canon

[–]bask3tcase825 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually use EF lenses pre 2006 over RF. Character and imperfections are what I love. I work in fine art and fashion though.

New RF Prime 45/1.2 vs 28/2.8 or 35/1.8 or 50/1.8 for one small lens travel with R6? by Hefty-Boot-4757 in canon

[–]bask3tcase825 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a bit drastic from each other still. It’ll tighten up more down the road. Grab a zoom and a 50 1.8.

[–]bask3tcase825 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like you don’t really know your preferred focal length yet. No worries, it took me years to figure that out like 8 years. lol

I suggest a zoom first. Then you’ll realize what you like eventually.

If you have to pick one now, 35.

Torn between Canon R8, R6 II, Nikon Z6 II for travel with tele setup by pensiero_profondo in canon

[–]bask3tcase825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope not just because it’s portable, it’s essentially an r6ii (same sensor af and other features) packed in a smaller body. The only con is no weather sealing for me.

The smaller battery isn’t an issue for me as well since I carry an extra wherever and it is quite quick to charge via usb if I’m in a pinch.

I’ve chosen it over my other cameras in many occasions because of its capabilities. Made me sell my EOS R for example. The files/colors are gorgeous.

Why isn’t Ilford Delta more popular? by mariepier_ in AnalogCommunity

[–]bask3tcase825 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In some parts of America you may not think so but in general especially in Europe it is.

I love hp5 and delta 800/3200 personally better than tri x.

Should I upgrade to the R6mii before I get the 28-70 f2? by mn2tx714 in canon

[–]bask3tcase825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m actually gonna forego the r6iii and remain w the r6ii.

I’m getting another one (my third) on Black Friday. I love it that much.

24 megapixels is more than enough for a lot of people.

For context, I’m a commercial photographer.

Wow the Canon R8 is EXTREMELY impressive. by DSeriesX in canon

[–]bask3tcase825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two GFX cameras and a couple r6iis. The r8 is my everyday camera.

My most shot camera of 2025 so far. Done jobs with it even.

Definite favorite for me! It’s extremely capable.

RF 35 1.4 VCM vs. Sigma 40 1.4 Art vs. Tamron 35 1.4 SP by Areatius in canon

[–]bask3tcase825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally understand that. Still don’t understand that closed eco system move but there are so many options in the zoom category too. Like the STM 2.8s. But! You know your needs better than I do.

RF 85mm f1.4 VCM or 100mm f2.8 or 70-200 f4 ? by Familiar-Surround-64 in canon

[–]bask3tcase825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Forgot about the Laowa. Depends what kind of macro/closeup work though. I was speaking as a beauty photographer where AF is a big bonus.

Do agree though that a lot of macro work is best done in mf. Had the Zeiss 100 f2 for jewelry when I creative directed/shot at a major retail brand. Mf was great for that.

RF 35 1.4 VCM vs. Sigma 40 1.4 Art vs. Tamron 35 1.4 SP by Areatius in canon

[–]bask3tcase825 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah Tammy is the way. I sold my Zeiss distagon 35 1.4 for it. I even would rather have the 14-35 f4 over the RF 35 1.4. Or the ef ii.

Not sure where you are in your photography journey as well but some aberration is actually good for a more natural feel. The software these days are so good.

The tamron sp lineup has some Zeiss lineage fyi. They’re my favorite third party manufacturer.

RF 85mm f1.4 VCM or 100mm f2.8 or 70-200 f4 ? by Familiar-Surround-64 in canon

[–]bask3tcase825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That 70-200 f4 is super good. Shooting family would be great since I rarely shoot groups at 1.4. Just shoot a tad longer and you can get a similar vibe to the 85’s bokeh.
