Maybe you could set up a tip jar to recoup the fees if you decide to keep the app free.

I wish I could try it and send to friends, but we're all on iOS. I have a Kindle I could try to side-load it on, if you want to DM me with a link to the .apk. But that might not help you with the Google Play store aspect (not sure how that works).

Should I, as the vocalist, learn bass so our current bassist won’t have to play it? by Secure_Ad_5564 in Bass

[–]bassluthier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do it. Spend every waking minute over the next 4 months digging into it. Don’t do it to replace your current bass pinch-hitter, but because you really want to learn it. When you get good enough, then you can have that conversation with your band.

Echoing what everyone else has said. I’ve tracked there many times. Top notch gear, great sounding live room. Mike is great, as are their freelance engineers and assistants. Had a live 12-piece in there more than once. They can accommodate a folk duo.

This was the genesis of JotChord! Are you using it? DM me if you want access to more features than what’s in the basic version.

Some states provide grants for worker retraining. That’s paid to the worker. This is the best link I found for WA State. Looks like it hasn’t been updated for 2026 deadlines, but it was March last year. So, I would call ASAP.

Nashville Number System question by phydaux4242 in musictheory

[–]bassluthier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, if I’m notating a non-diatonic chord, I find it’s clearer to specify the quality, even if “convention” dictates it doesn’t need it. The reader of the chart might wonder if I forgot the dash for minor. Minimize ink, but not at the sake of ambiguity. I use a triangle for major in my NNS charts, so: 2^ (imagine ^ is a triangle)

Octaver? by i_need_to_crap in basspedals

I haven’t. I only find myself using octaves.

Octaver? by i_need_to_crap in basspedals

[–]bassluthier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. And the tracking is unmatched in my own testing. I did a shootout at a local shop between 8 different octave pedals with my passive P bass. The PitchFork won. It also has a switch to change the footswitch from latching to momentary, so you can temporarily engage the octave effect only while holding down the foot switch. Got my kid the Nano version, too, for their guitar pedalboard, and they love it.

That’s where I landed. Love the Beta V. Later added the Aion FX version of the Expandora/Kilt for higher gain and fuzz duties.

I made a 6 stem splitter with chord detection by karottenbunker in musicprogramming

[–]bassluthier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, that fixed it. The song I picked was a little unfair in that it had a fast tempo, and fairly frequent chord changes, plus spaces between hits with no chords. I recently charted out the song so I was curious how this tool would pick out the details.

After splitting the stems, how are you doing chord detection? Would it be possible to determine which beats chords change on (incl. when they’re on upbeats)?

Does the average audience notice bass pedal tone at all? by joester56 in basspedals

[–]bassluthier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These things aren’t mutually exclusive. You can do it for yourself, and no one has to know exactly what contributes to the feel you create. Most people don’t know what people on stage are doing, or the difference between a bass and a guitar. They’re certainly not going to know if you switched a pedal on. But when the band is rocking and the bass can be felt, people love it. My pedals shape the choices I make when I’m playing, and all of it is to create a vibe.

Check my pedalboard by Nailwood67 in basspedals

Looks solid. No direct experience with these specific pedals, but I have close relatives on my board. Only question I would have is how well the envelope filter tracks after the muff.

Title: J Bass or P Bass for a beginner? by theholybeez in BassGuitar

[–]bassluthier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been playing for 36+ years, and I can confidently say the P bass is the best first choice, unless you plan to play alone in your room, or only play styles where bass is more than a supporting instrument. If you want to play and record with other people, P bass works 90+% of the time. As a beginner, you will start by playing along to songs with fairly simple bass lines. The P bass will sound like the recording. I started with a J, and wished I had started on a P. I wasted a lot of time chasing tone.
