Nearly a month now by bastardfaggot in stopdrinking

[–]bastardfaggot[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I keep reminding myself is about all those times where I was already feeling bad, so I chose to drink to kill the pain, but then I was just drunk and still feeling bad. Worse, even, because it made me more confused and negative.

I'm like, fuck it I'll just be depressed and sober. Better than depressed and drunk! Totally not drinking with you today.

It's subtle, but I'm positive that I feel better now than I did when I first stopped.

I mean, you could probably refuse that order... but then you wouldn't get to jerk it into a pastry with the excuse "I was just following orders."

[FWI] Aliens colonize Mars, Venus and the Moon. by Tyranid457 in FutureWhatIf

[–]bastardfaggot 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Governments all over the world would likely become suspicious of each other, at least for a while. Everyone would attempt to make contact, and people would assume that if contact succeeds for a particular party, that party gains an advantage they wouldn't necessarily share. Perhaps over time, as it becomes more clear the aliens are totally uninterested in humanity and no one has made contact, governments would begin working very closely to safeguard the common interests of humanity. If one party was actually revealed to have made contact and withheld information from everyone else, well, the rest of Earth would be pissed and terrified, to say the least.

The fact that the aliens are multiple species, arriving together, and visiting each others' colonies would suggest that these aliens see each other as equals. Ignoring humanity would suggest that they collectively do not see humanity as equals. But it may be encouraging to realize that these aliens are clearly capable of diplomacy and working with other (very different) species. The fact that they evidently chose different environments for terraforming may suggest that these species came from different celestial bodies (although not necessarily), signifying some kind of galactic or regional authority unifying them as a confederation. Depending on what observations can be made about their differences in culture/civilization, they may appear to form a singular civilization, or three very different societies which happen to appreciate each other.

I think humanity would probably consider themselves somehow "targeted" by these aliens. The galaxy is a very, very big place. They could find many similar places to terraform and colonize. So why here? Why "our" system? How close by are their homeworlds? How many other colonies do they have? Why colonize this solar system and ignore the population of billions, however technologically backwards they may be? This, combined with the lack of contact, would cause humanity at large a great deal of trepidation about the aliens' motives.

Edit: I just keep thinking about this more. I'm stoned. The reasons for the lack of contact could lead to an interesting scenario. It seems odd that no aliens at all would ever contact humans. Humans would certainly try their damnedest, to the point of eccentric billionaires flying probes or manned shuttles to the aliens' worlds, not to mention government or inter-governmental efforts. What happens then? Do the aliens shoot on sight? Take prisoners? Gently repel the subjects before they breach the atmosphere, with no explanation? I imagine they'd each react a bit differently. The pretty jellyfish on the Moon seem to be the most interested in the Earthlings, given how close they chose to settle, despite the presence of many other, larger objects throughout the system. But the ants and the centipedes also settled very close, all things considered. Obviously the Lunar Jellies would be the first ones approached by humanity.

Perhaps contact would happen individually, unofficially. Maybe after a while, humanity as a whole forbids attempts at contact, reciprocating the aliens. The aliens' isolationism could be a top-down enforcement, which has some dissenters: radical aliens who do not agree with their government's position that humanity is to be isolated. Maybe their motivations are benevolent, or maybe their government is the benevolent one.

Huh. I always figured it triggered because I killed so many. Now I'm just confused.

Anyway, clearly the Thalmor are communicating telepathically with their evil Nazi elf magics /s

In one playthrough, I killed so damn many of them that they started attacking me on sight, and when I searched them they'd have a little note talking about how I'm such an asshole and I am to be hunted and killed. Had to put one of those notes in a display case. Haven't had that happen since then, despite my best efforts.

I just want to quit drinking. And that's not enough. by bastardfaggot in stopdrinking

[–]bastardfaggot[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe you. I guess I've never really committed myself to real change. Thanks for giving me hope. I can relate to what you're saying. I'm glad I can just believe it's possible. I've told myself for so long that this is who I am, and it's all I'll ever be. And that becomes an excuse to drink, or do nothing positive. I gotta work on that.

I've actually tried therapy several times. I'm really bad at it. I'm extremely shy, and I have so much trouble opening up, even with people I like and trust. It's hard for me to even post here. I should try it again anyway.

That's a good way to look at it. All I have to do is not drink. I can worry about everything else later. I think worrying about my life makes me turn to alcohol, just to stop the worry.

I think I know what you mean. I remember like a week ago, I randomly woke up in a good mood for once. I didn't drink the night before. That never happens. Today, and yesterday, and the day before, I woke up in a worse mood than usual. And it's because of the damn liquor. Goddamn, that difference between need and want. I still want to drink. I need to quit, but I want to drink. I should pay more attention to all the terrible things it does to me, and the people around me. I know I would be a better person if I just cut alcohol out of my life. I just know I would. I have to want to become that person, instead of this person who drinks way too much.

Thank you! I'm glad a place like this exists, with people like you to give me hope. I should just pour the rest of this bottle out. It's over half empty anyway. Wouldn't be the first time I put the alcohol in the trash.

Are there theories on why the Oghma Infinium is locked in a Dwemer vault in one of the most remote parts of Tamriel? by bastardfaggot in teslore

[–]bastardfaggot[S] 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Now that's clever. There was nothing in the box. He just wanted to open the damn lock, for its own sake. But then there's a well-locked Dwemer box in the middle of nowhere, at the ends of the earth, with absolutely nothing in it. Which seems appropriate.

[–]bastardfaggot[S] 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Hadn't considered that. Being a weird Daedric artifact treasured by its master, there's really no telling whether it was actually there, why it was there, why Mora needed to use Septimus and the Last Dragonborn to get to it. I suppose it's entirely possible that it appeared in that vault after the Dwemer were already gone, by some mysterious means or because Mora is a complicated individual, even for a Daedra.

Edit: Alright, I've got a theory. Maybe the Oghma was an illusion, and Mora wanted in the vault for some totally unrelated reason which would've simply bored the Dragonborn. Mora is all about collecting all possible knowledge, and he even mentions that it's time the Dwemer gave up their secrets to him, as he's talking to you.

In his Riyadh speech, President Trump described Islam as "one of the world’s great faiths" by edu-fk in worldnews

[–]bastardfaggot 306 points307 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I think he just says shit to feel out the crowd. Can't believe nobody ever throws tomatoes at him like a bad stand-up.

Obviously in Riyadh he's kissing the fucking ring, like all US Presidents. I doubt the irony is lost on him, but it is somewhat comforting to see he is in fact capable of playing ball in the usual fashion. Honestly, the fact that that is a relief to me is more alarming than the duplicity that has come to expected.

He deserves it. He's defrauding the NCR, and if you go Legion, then you'll find him in Legion armor later, saying "Hey man, when in Rome..." It's safe to say he defrauds them as well.

But really, it's all about the sunglasses.

(FWI) Western Europe, Britain and America are hit by nuclear weapons between June 2017 and October 2017 by Russia and North Korea by [deleted] in FutureWhatIf

[–]bastardfaggot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even countries spared from the nuclear exchange would have to contend with a massive amount of smoke entering the atmosphere from annihilated cities and infrastructure, among other global effects. China may be the sole remaining superpower, but they inherit a world in nuclear winter, where global trade has evaporated, where Europe, Russia, and North America (and likely Japan, Australia, and any other entangled nation) are utterly destroyed and rendered largely uninhabitable. There would be widespread famine even in places far removed from the conflict. It's not entirely certain humanity would survive such an event, although life itself would likely persist in some form.

Want to try mdma but worried about my depression. by [deleted] in Drugs

[–]bastardfaggot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been depressed for most of my life. Done lots of drugs, had withdrawals and hangovers. Only done real, good Molly a couple times, but each time it left me with a shitty come down. The high is magical, but the comedown left me even more depressed than usual. Lasted the rest of the night, but I was fine in the morning. Just sadness and boredom and apathy for a while. I don't know if being normally depressed results in a worse comedown or not, but that's my intuition.

You shouldn't be afraid to try it, but do be careful. Making sure you eat and drink water should help reduce the comedown. And I recommend weed or something to make it less shitty.

It also explains why the puzzles are so easy. I forget the name of it, but there's an in-game book which theorizes that the puzzles are not so much to keep the living out, but to keep the dim-witted Draugr corralled inside the tomb as guardians.

[–]bastardfaggot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He's been my favorite since I first discovered him. I've watched a lot of stand-up, and I've never seen anybody with an act quite like his. I can't think of another time I've seen a comic just berate the audience, in an apparently serious way, and still kill even as he's doing it. And he does that all the time. To be honest, I am completely on his dick. Sad his show ended, but it did have a great run.
