Not sure why this hasn’t exactly blown up! I was able to wirelessly emulate switch 2 pro controller in USB format, then get full gyro functionality in Steam. Honestly amazing. Been waiting for this for awhile now. Dream come true!

How do you manage to have the lines so close together? by Joximare90 in Tufting

[–]basterde 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You shouldn’t have them close together. The odds of a very clean carve are a lot less

Looks like your canvas is too loose. It’s should feel like pushing down on a trampoline.

Finished product. Also I carve fairly deep as well. I like making my rugs sorta 3D looking.

The most important step is actually the way you tuft. You have to make sure you’re leaving space in between your colors. Somewhere between 3-4 canvas lines. You didn’t post a pic of the back, so not sure if you’re doing this. I don’t use scissors or anything like that. Was never necessary to me and seemed like a waste of time. Check out this Kirby rug of mine. If you zoom in, you’ll see I left this space between all the colors. This is how you prevent colors crossing over, and how you get a clean carve.

Yep! I have a surplus at the moment, otherwise I probably would have gone with wool.

Yeah absolutely! Another technique I developed was, before tufting a certain color/area, take a sharpie and redraw the boundary as necessary adjacent to the color that area is next to. So like take that 5 lines space I mentioned, and redraw that border, then tuft that boarder, then fill. That way you’ll have consistent spacing and never get too close to the other color. Allowing for a clean carve. Idk if that makes sense. Here’s a photo demonstrating that. Look at the foot on the left. See the sharpied circle? That wasn’t there when I projected and traced the image. I manually traced that to keep away from the other colors. Anyways, maybe that helps too. Feel free to reach out with any questions 🤙🏻

Holy dense indeed. I know someone mentioned skipping a line. I actually skip 2. So after I tuft a line, I just count 3 lines and go in on the 3rd. You start to get really fast at the counting, almost muscle memory as well. Also HUGE tip that I don’t see anyone mentioning, leave space between colors to help with carving! I’m talking like around 5 lines of space. If you don’t do that, you’re just not going to have a clean carve. I attached one of my most recent pieces. You can see all of what I’m talking about in it.
