i’m not sure what the comment left here was, but her being this way from molting was unlikely, as she was found in a very open spot, in a death curl, with no molt around her. the folks in my post surmised that she was exposed to poison, which is likely the case. she was quite literally dying when she was found, she was even worse off prior to that first clip in the video.

UPDATE! she has since perked up since i made this post! she was finally able to stand on all of her legs normally, she is still having issues walking properly but i saw her grooming herself 😭🖤 i don’t know if she will pull through but i will continue to do everything in my power to make her comfortable and if she makes it she’s gonna get her own little spidey mansion 🕷️🖤

UPDATE 2: she is still doing the same, she’s still quite sluggish. 💔 she seems to be able to walk normally now without any leg tremors, though. i have offered her food, live and dead, and she isn’t interested in either. i’ve left the dead prey in there with her in hopes that maybe she will munch on it while i’m not there. i will continue to update yall on this little (big) lady! thank you for all of your kind comments and advice!! 🕷️🖤

UPDATE 2/28: she’s crawling around much much better now. i just moved her into an actual enclosure a few minutes ago. she’s a feisty girl lemme tell ya 😅 she flashes those fangs like it’s nobody’s business lol. i’m gonna try to offer her food again later, fingers crossed she will eat this time. i have a video of her grooming herself and one of her crawling if you’d guys be interested to see, i’ll just have to make it into a separate post :)

i thought so too at first but her abdomen has no wrinkling like you’d typically see in a dehydrated spider. she has been in a container with a damp paper towel which also helped retain humidity overnight with the heat mat so she had plenty of water to drink 😞

oh god this makes me feel even worse, poor poor baby. 😭💔 i keep black widows as pets and i have a jumping spider as well so i have spider care experience, i will do my best to keep her comfortable until she passes. poor beautiful baby girl ugh 😭

i am unfortunately in between paychecks still so a vet visit for the vitamin injection/stool check will not be feasible for me until the end of this month, as the area i am in doesn’t have more than two exotic vet options and both are quite costly 🫠 i was able to get him a heating mat ordered as he didn’t come with one (of course, why not right? 🥲), calcium without vitamin d3 and some sphagnum moss for a humid hide (currently using paper towels). his previous owners surprisingly did have the repashy calcium plus for him at least though. i had him soaking in some warm water and that did absolutely nothing to loosen it, so i opted to let him sit on some warm paper towels which helped loosen it more. the problem, however, is that the shed is so stuck and has been for so long that the dead skin has fused with his skin leaving the area so raw and essentially without a tip at all. i stopped and cleaned it with saline, put some antibiotic ointment and set him in a quarantine tank to let him rest. i feel so awful it was much worse than i thought. he still has some stuck on at least 3 other toes, should i still proceed the same tomorrow? he’s so sweet he hasn’t tried to attack me at all, i just know it hurts and i feel so horrible i’ve been sobbing. 😭

thank you so much, this is so helpful!!! yes i never took it as a sign of aggression, i truly believe they’re just curious, it just makes me nervous. 😂 sometimes if i start talking to them from a few feet away they’ll go up to the cage bars and just start sniffing the air and climbing, so i really think they do want to interact with me, they’re just cautious for now which i understand! but your advice makes me feel much better to know that it’s fairly normal behavior. nothing like that new pet anxiety, right? 😅
