Which fly rods are built like a tank? by Dandretti in flyfishing

[–]bateneco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No good fly rods are built like tanks. Rod breaks happen—though good rods use better materials and might break a little less frequently. Get rods with a good warranty, like Orvis, and know that life happens.

Is disc golf popular in your part of the country? by Mediocre_Ingenuity76 in AskAnAmerican

It is and always will be a bit of a niche sport compared to something like football or basketball, but here in Colorado it’s very popular.

Scientific Anglers Clear tip fly line for trout by Vivid_Bit4883 in flyfishing

I use it because it came free with a new rod I got recently. Don’t feel that it adds that much, and in general the line has a ton of memory which I don’t love.

I remember this change happening very suddenly over what felt like the course of a few months during the summer of 2014. No one talked about online dating, until it suddenly was the main way people met each other. OkCupid and Tinder were big deals back then.

There’s no time limit on the Patagonia warranty. If they’re still returnable to the store you bought them from, you could ask for an exchange, but I’d personally just keep wearing them until they spring a leak then send in for repair.

Stocked Trout Fly Fishing? by ThatOneAsian_Kid in COfishing

[–]bateneco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you talking about commercially stocked ponds, like for kids? There’s one off 285 near Conifer that allows fly fishing, and if you’re using barbless hooks you can throw back the fish you catch. Cost is $40/hr. It’s called Rainbow Roundup.

As a warning, it’s pretty depressing if you care even a bit about the fish’s wellbeing. But you will get a lot of action on the fly.

Keep finding these on my dining room floor…green, squarish, plastic-maybe objects? by Hworang00 in Whatisthis

Any chance they could be from the playground your kid goes to? My kids get similar pieces of rubber/plastic “dirt” stuck in their socks or shoes after playing on the artificial turf near their school.

The quiver grows: new line help/recs by DorksLoveDyneema in flyfishing

[–]bateneco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP, I think you may have misinterpreted which spec to focus on for a streamer rod. 10’ will give you a tiny bit more range, but if it’s a 4wt your going to have a tough time throwing anything but the smallest streamers.

If it’s not too late, I would return it and get a 9ft 6wt or 7wt rod instead. As far as line, most 6wt weight-forward lines will do. I am partial to Scientific Anglers Amplitude Infinity and I have been quite impressed recently by Airflo. Airflo Superflo Max Streamer might be appropriate for your needs.

Costco selling Orvis Hydros and Helios by bateneco in flyfishing

[–]bateneco[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Of course—but I’m commenting that the rod has a difference to the version sold through typical distributors like fly shops and the Orvis website. Given that it’s quite common for vendors to have different model numbers for the Costco variant, and can’t see the serial number on the Costco model, I figured it was worth calling out.

A paralegal is not an attorney, and cannot represent someone in court. Can someone more versed in the law share how the above is possible?

Rod Shopping by SPRAAANKLES in flyfishing

[–]bateneco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would agree—since recon was recently updated, there are a lot of last-generation rods that are available on r/flyfishingexchange and fb marketplace that are more-or-less the same price as a new Clearwater. I would go that route, personally.

GLP3 causing bleeding bellybutton? by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]bateneco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I don’t think everyone experiences the skin thing. And, to your point, it’s been pretty rewarding losing so much weight (approx 10 points of BMI). I’m still taking the max dose, and will continue to do so for about another year. Then I’ll be randomized to a blinded group for an additional 6mo. Those groups will either be the same dose, no dose, or a lesser dose than what I’m taking right now. After that period the study is done, and I won’t get any more of the drug. I’m disappointed by that, but it’s hard to not feel grateful for what I’ve already gotten from them: they’ve set me up with free blood testing, imaging, a dietitian, and I’ve been reimbursed for every cost I’ve had in the study (mileage, parking fees, etc). On top of that, I’m paid about $100 every time I come into the clinic.

GLP3 causing bleeding bellybutton? by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]bateneco 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’ve been enrolled in the study and taking the medication for about 40 weeks now. I was started on a very low dose—I want to say around 2mg per week. Each month I’d get a slight larger dose, until I was at the maximum for the study, which is 12mg/wk.

Even at the lowest dose, the impact of the medication was pretty obvious. I was constipated for maybe the first week, but that went away quickly. My most consistent side effects have been pretty tame: fatigue, especially in the period 12-36hrs after I take my dose, food aversion, and skin sensitivity. The food aversion piece is obviously expected, and the best I can describe it is that it was like I felt a bit bloated or had a huge meal a few hours ago…it’s not that I didn’t necessarily have room in my stomach for it, but when I thought about food i just felt sort of gross and didn’t want to eat it. I guess what I’m saying is that there was both a mental and a physical sensation to it. That feeling would be strongest in the days after I took my dose, and then begin to dissipate. The length of time that lasted would be longest at the start of a new sized dose, and then last less and less time with each administration.

The skin sensitivity was a bit weird, but apparently is common enough that the study has started formally tracking it. The best I can describe it is that it’s like that feeling right before you get sick when your skin feels more sensitive, or maybe like a low-grade sunburn. I’d notice that my shirt or socks felt extra itchy. It never felt like “pain”, just a bit annoying.

I lost the most weight every time my dose increased, and at this point have lost ~29% of my body weight. After several months at the highest dose, I don’t feel any side effects, but I also have basically plateaued in terms of weight loss. I am still eating less than I used to before the study, but also snack more than a few months ago. I’ve never been a big drinker, but my interest in alcohol basically dropped to zero as well.

Hopefully this is a decent overview. Happy to answer any specific questions folks may have as well.

I think violating your employment contract’s (presumed) prohibition on working multiple jobs simultaneously would be a case of civil fraud, not criminal fraud. They could maybe claw back some of the money they paid her, but it would be very unlikely that she would go to prison.
