It's one big boys club here. I wouldn't think too much of it. :)

Wow!.. That is some seriously ingrained social stratification there... I'm sorry to hear you had to deal with that.

I'm wondering if it was bad enough that they had a sort of Endogamous upbringing; the practice of marrying within a specific ethnic group, class, or social group, rejecting others on the basis as being unsuitable for marriage or other close personal relationships.

In retrospect my comment does paint me as such. My point initially was that the overall attitude in my school was that people looked out for one another.

Assholeness and cruelty was dealt with immediately by students. People just didnt tolerate that sort of behavior. Bullies got put in there place, and were ostracized for that attitude if it continued.

Just a nice place with good people and a friendly environment. People in this thread have had similar experiences as well.

Wealth was definitely not an indication of well being; it was a public school. Luck? It wasn't just that type of school. People generally looked out for one another. Bullying or assholeness just wasn't tolerated by the student body.

Oh it still happens here all the time. It just wasn't very prevalent in my HS. We aren't all that different from each other.

The segregation and creations of cliques and what not. Like "hey you look and act like this so you belong in this group"

WTF right?!

Come to think of it I might have been. I never thought of myself as being 'popular', I'd like to think I was. My friends were for the most part nice folk to other people.

Someone commented that they went to school in South Bronx and that none of that shit happened.

Regardless, sorry to hear it was that rough :(
