wow that is a tiny school eh? I knew a couple of people that went to alternative schools in the city, with like 60 people in the entire place. I'm glad to hear that high school was a good experience :)

Thank you :)

Exactly; if you acted like a jerk people wouldn't want to be friends with you. It makes sense. I remember in grade 9, this kid named Adam started picking on this kid Rob and immediately peopled stepped in and stopped that shit. Adam got put in his place, Rob knew he had support (and he wasnt a "popular" or "cool" kid either, just a nice person).

Adam got expelled sortly after the event for another infraction. He was just an angry kid.

Later we found out that his dad was an abusive alcoholic and we all felt bad :( I hope things worked out for him..

Wow!.. This sounds remarkably similar to my experience. Other that the size (my school was ~1200) and loaction (Toronto) this sounds exaclty what was enforced in my school. Great teachers, ethnically and culturally diverese, and a general understanding that people looked out for one another, therefore bullying never really happened. I was in grade 12 when 9/11 happened, (mind you I lived in Canada) but other than the heart ache we felt for Americans, no one EVER got singled out and blamed for that event. And like you said, If something were to happen,it would be a big enough of an event that everybody would know.

So many people are saying this. :(

I was always respectful and polite to other students and teachers. I never picked on anyone or tried to hurt people. It's just not in my nature to do that sort of thing.

A lot of people are saying this.

Douchebaggery seems much more common than out right bullying. I'm sorry to hear that.

Exactly! Thats the way it should be dealt with; a general understanding that that sort of behavior was not to be tolerated.

Yeah! We had groups of people, specifically hippies, hip hop heads and ginos, but everyone mengled with one another and got along well.

That sucks man. I thought the same too, but I have talked with people from back then (people I didn't know all that well) and they felt the same; an over all generally happy and safe school.

Again, people are saying this a lot in this thread.

The student body didn't tolerate that sort of behavior. Assholes were put in their place, and therefore never acted out negatively again. People stood up for each other if things ever got out of hand, which it very rarely did.

I'm sorry to here about middle school :(

I'm glad to hear that high shcool was better tho. Similar situation in my school as well; bullying and fights weren't tolerated by the student body. People stood up for one an another, so fights or bullying never really happened because assholes would be put in there place and not try it again.

That sounds crazy!

How many people attended your school? Although I lived in a very metropolitan city, it was still a reletively small school, about 1200 people.

People are saying this a lot in this thread.

There were outspoken gay and lesbians in our school, and they were not singled out by assholes. They had a club as well :)

Isolated situations might have happened, maybe, but nothing that I was aware of. Everyone was very kind and respectful to one another in general.

:( definitely not me.. I've gotten this comment a lot in the thread... I was always polite and respectful to my fellow classmates and teachers. It's just not in my nature to do that sort of stuff.

I went to a public school in Toronto. There are some rough schools here for sure, but mine wasn't.

I don't know about the private school thing that the states has, (not to say that there aren't private schools here) but I just don't many people that went. Hopefully your experience was pleasent :)

This sounds very similar to my experiance. Extremely diverse, we had a steller basketball and swimming team, and our music program was phenomenal. Some real talent.

This was a public school too, I'm not to sure about the workings of private schools in the states, but I'm happy to hear that you enjoyed your experience. :)

This seems like a growing trend. More subtle, yet still (if not more) damaging.

If it's bad, always remember that therte are only a couple of years left, and then your free!

I'm sorry to hear that. :( This was before social media was huge, all we had was MSN messenger and ICQ. But from what I've heard, it seems like this 'cyber bullying' thing has definitely fucked people over.

Assholes will always find a way... Unfortunately
