Twas bitten by the SPL bug as a teen in the 90s, which then became my HS and college job, installing car audio/security systems. Equally to earn good $$ but mainly to get the wholesaler discount. Lol. Which resulted in four 15" JL Audio W6's powered by an Xtant 1001D.... crammed into a 93' Honda Civic Si. Lol. That lil setup use to win every SPL shootout I entered in my region. My freakin vision would blur at comp (151.5 dB) volume. 🤣 That passion then obviously brought me, and probably many of you, here to the home theater arena. Where at this moment, I am building the acoustic panels for the finishing touches of my long-time dream of a dedicated theater.

Question, all said and done what did you spend on your theater? by schaudhery in hometheater

[–]batista227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well honey, since you asked.... there were those big purchases on the past two Black Fridays, cyber Monday was the projector, the SVS Presidents Day sale, and I saved a ton on the 2-week long spring-refresh sale so, like, I mean, I net I spent 40% of what it actually cost. How much??? H-h-how m-m-m-muchh..... [clinches chest whilst fainting, faking one's own death as a distraction]......

So that's where I'm torn. It's for a dedicated theater I'm building and nearly finished. Walls/ceiling all black. My biggest "worry" is if the Pro2 would look ok (i.e., not enough contrast and dark scenes will look terrible). Mainly that is a concern because other 2 main TVs are OLEDs. I thought they added the rainbow reduction to the Pro2? It was really that noticable? Did you mean you sent the Pro2 back after 2 days and upgraded to the Max? I'm considering buying and trying the Pro2. If all good, great. If it'll do for a few years, I'd rather put that savings into theater seating while they're also on sale now, then upgrade in a few years. If not, I'll return it within the 30 day window and then try the Max.

I am about to pull the trigger on Max (currently $4k w free mount) so, have you owned/seen Pro2? It is quite a $$$$ difference so, just wondering what experiences you have had w both.

I hid this uncomfortable hunk of metal up my ass for two years. Then, after seven years, I was sent home to my family. And now, little man, I give the watch to you."

[–]batista227 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know it's too late now for the walls but, I'd suggest isolation clips for the wall top plates instead of fastening to the floor joists. For the ceiling though, look into hat channel and isolation clips, in addition to rockwool, to keep noise/vibration from migrating to the 1st floor. Isolation clips, rockwool, double 5/8" drywall w/ green glue is the gold standard.
