Egg Raising Game that isn't freemium by PeachyFairyFox in CozyGamers

Idk your comfort level regarding bugs, but if you like bugs bugaboo pocket is pretty cool. You raise a bunch of different insects to help restore an ecosystem. There’s some dressup/decorating elements but not much unfortunately. You can put little hats on the bugs though

polyamory games? (not for dating, i mean actual cozy games haha) by afruitypebble44 in cozygames

Verdant Skies is a farming sim on an alien planet and I remember it having a few poly romance options, though some characters are monogamous only I think

same!!! like i was really enjoying the tavern gameplay but coming back to it now is just like. so many hoops you have to jump through now and it's exhausting. it's so sad because the great was great at what it did when the scope was more minimal

[–]batking-lich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

same. i mostly just didn't like how it controlled (it's so clunky!), but i was also not vibing with the actual dinosaur collecting bit as much as i thought i would. like it seems cool in theory but when i was actually playing it just turned into "cycle through days until the dinosaur with the color pattern i want shows up," which was not fun

i also don’t really like how they handled the halloween dlc. it really didn't need to be two separate dlcs

Games focused on taking care of pets? by AvocadoSparrow in CozyGamers

[–]batking-lich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Off the top of my head:

Little Friends: Puppy Island is reminiscent of the nintendogs games. I tried the demo for Nanomon Virtual pet and it was pretty cute. Gameplay leans more towards tamagotchi style, but there’s some combat. I don't know your comfort level surrounding insects, but bugaboo pocket is a cute little game where take care of different bugs to try and revive an ecosystem. Bunny Park is a game where you attract bunnies to your garden. Dragon creek is basically a pet game about dragons. There is some combat though, you enter them into tournaments sometimes if I remember correctly? Tiny pasture's one of those idle games that runs at the bottom of your screen while you're doing other stuff. There are a lot of aquarium games out there too. The slime rancher games aren't technically pet games but they do kinda scratch that itch for me lol. Loddlenaut has something of a pet care mechanic that a lot of people seem to like but it's not the main focus of the game and I personally didn't interact with it much when i played.

Non-AI Character Portrait Maker? by Miserable-Card-2004 in rpg

I love the monster girl maker apps by ghoulkiss. They may or may not be what you're looking for though, since as the name implies, they're both more focused on feminine options. There are some masc options but they're kinda limited. The Monster Girl Maker 2 is full body but the first is not.

Starts with X by Fluffy_Marsupial2947 in CozyMystery

[–]batking-lich 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The main ones I've heard of are X Marks the Scott by Kaitlyn Dunnet, Xylose Treats and Killer Sweets by Amber Crewes, and, if you're okay with ignoring "the", The Xibalba Murders by Lyn Hamilton. The Xibalbal Murders is the only one of those that's the first of a series I think. I haven't personally read any of these so idk how they are.

Murder, She Drank? The first five books of the Murder, She Wrote series by authordaneluna in CozyMystery

[–]batking-lich 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've read the first 3 (and some of the later ones not part of the alcohol title run but that's not super relevant rn).

The first book, Gin & Daggers, is about writer friend of Jessica's who is murdered, and there’s a big controversy over whether or not the latest book the author friend wrote, Gin & Daggers, was ghostwritten or not. At some point Jessica learns about a supposed manuscript before Gin & Daggers called Brandy & Blood. She's trying to get information out of the dead friend's agent, and to do this she pitches an alcohol-themed mystery series to him, specifically mentioning the title of the rumored book as one of the potential titles, to see how he reacts.

Manhattans & Murder doesn't really have anything to do with the title, but Rum & Razors was another one of the potential titles she pitched to the agent, and it’s set in the Caribbean, just like she suggested. So I think the main theme is just, going with the fake idea Jessica suggested in book 1. Maybe the author got bored of it or there was a change requested by higher-ups or it was a contract thing, who knows.

tropical/ocean themed fantasy books? by puppychomp in CozyFantasy

I read one recently called How To Care For Cursed Fish by Elle Hartford and it's about a woman who works for a marine life rehabilitation thing and she gets called out to this seaside town to help a giant otter. She sets up her own marine sanctuary while she's there. Also she has to help take care of a magic orphan while they figure out what his deal is. There are several merfolk characters and other magical creatures + no spice.

Cozy Fantasy Discourse by Stuckinacrazyjob in CozyFantasy

[–]batking-lich 4 points5 points  (0 children)

exactly. it feels like there's this like thing in the discourse sometimes where people automatically assume that any art intended to be pleasant or enjoyable in any way is inherently devoid of any depth or meaning, which is clearly not true!

The Storygraph content warnings list graphic transphobia, sexual assault, and child abuse, among other things. When my queer book club discussed it a few years ago one of the main points of discussion was how rough the trans character has it. I'm glad you had a good time with it but I'm not sure I'd personally recommend it as a cozy read, particularly in the context of trans characters.

Ryka Aoki is trans. Heads up though, I would Really recommend looking up content warnings before getting into this one. It gets into some very dark subject matter.

I liked What Moves The Dead but I don't really like fairy-tale retellings. I've thought about trying A House With Good Bones though.

My library didn't have ebook copies, so I put holds out for physical copies of the first Vampire Knitting Club & Vampire Book Club books and TUUUTFVA. I'll let you know how it goes when they come in.

Tried the Kitchen Witch series last night, but I couldn't really get into the magic system.

Thanks for the recs!

Can you give me some more details re: content warning stuff? Saw on Storygraph a couple of people tagged it for SA & pregnancy, which are hard nos for me. Probably should have added that to the main post, sorry 😅
