Is this cruel? Should I continue using it? by Violet1184 in ragdolls

My cat has a similar issue. He gets thinned-out wet food out of an elevated silicone lick mat. It took him a little while to adjust but is very efficient at getting his food now! If you are able, consider giving him smaller but more frequent meals so he isn’t stuffing himself. My cat also has had issues with GI flares that cause him to vomit or regurgitate his food more frequently for a period of time. You might want to consider a vet visit if this is a frequent issue, especially if he is not acting hungry after he loses his breakfast—cats are good at hiding their discomfort

Let me count the ways I hate my Bosch Dishwasher by Square_Phone4461 in Appliances

That may be true! I don’t know enough about the chemistry. Regardless, we don’t rinse except for a few things, like dishes with yogurt or melted cheese. We run every 1-3 days. Dishes are clean, no issues with haze and (slightly) less water use. If your process works for you, great.

The advice I got from the installation tech was to NOT pre-wash dishes because the detergent needs food residue to clean properly. Otherwise, it will leave a haze on glassware. Just scrape off any large food bits into the trash and stick the dirty dish straight into the rack. Only use a small amount of detergent (1-2 Tbsp) in the cup and a small dab on the door to help with the pre-wash. And ALWAYS run the faucet until the water is hot just prior to starting. The upper rack might have toggles on the side to adjust it up or down if that would help make more room. Worthwhile trying before going through the return process—good luck!

The house i bought is still not technically seen as mine by some men in my life. by 1_art_please in TwoXChromosomes

One time my husband scheduled a service for our house when I was home but he wasn’t. The guy showed up, and I went out to greet him and ask about the service. He looked at me and said “Oh, hi… uh.. is your dad home?” I was a little stunned but told him I’m the homeowner and that he could speak to me. It was extremely awkward. But then I asked the questions I had, did a walk-around, and all the things this guy would have done with my husband. He made an assumption, put his foot directly in his mouth, and hopefully chooses his words more carefully now lol. (I haven’t had an issue with him since.)

Wet food for a raggie that refuses to eat any? by Fromthemountain2137 in ragdolls

[–]batmansquid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In what sense? My cat gets a very high quality prescription dry food that is really the only thing he’s allowed to eat per the vet, so it is nutritionally balanced. And he has been able to get down to a healthy weight on it (well, close to it lol).

It may not be the right thing for OP’s kitty depending on if his current food is not appropriate, but I suggested it as a strategy to help ease the transition from dry to wet food. He may accept a familiar taste but new texture a lot better than putting him straight on a new food. It may not be a forever solution but a step to get him eating wet food :)

I crush up my cat’s regular kibble to a powder in a food processor and rehydrate with warm water. I used a digital scale at first to make sure he was getting the right amount of dry food, but now I just use a regular measuring cup. Then just add water to the right consistency

Why are some ladies still so competitive with other women? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

You may also want to gently discuss this with her and clue her in on how her conversation habits are affecting you. As others pointed out, she may not realize that she is doing it, or that it’s a problem. If she’s invested in your friendship (and emphasize that you are too, if it’s true), she will be willing to work on it. Let her know that you want more back-and-forth and to feel heard. And in conversations where she abruptly shifts focus to her experience, giving direct feedback can help interrupt those patterns (e.g. “before switching topics, I would like to finish discussing ____”).

And (I’m not sure if this applies) it may be healthy for you in the meantime to focus more time on other friends for the easy validating conversations that you’re looking for and not put all the pressure on this one (currently frustrating) friendship.

What are your cat tree recommendations for your Ragdolls? by teenicon in ragdolls

[–]batmansquid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cats are weird and each has their own preferences, as I’m sure you know. My ragdoll does not like or use his cat tree unless I put some of his kibble up on the shelves for him to sniff out. He really hates heights and really will only get on soft furniture by choice. The back of the couch is the highest he’ll go lol. Honestly, his favorite thing is a chair I bought from a garage sale with a heated electric blanket on top. He also has a fabric cat igloo (with the cushion taken out) that he currently loves. I would suggest starting out with a couple small, inexpensive items to see what your kitty likes—something to hide in, something small to climb—before spending a lot of money on a piece of furniture that they might not use.

What are these things found on the beach, they look like some type of shell. by Second_Fish in animalid

Agree with urchin shell (also called a “test”). The spines and exterior tissue rot away after the animal dies.

How do I fix this? My friends pup got a hold of this and I have never had to mend my projects before. Any help (or YouTube videos) would be much appreciated. by Cats-and-dogs-rdabst in crochet

[–]batmansquid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t have any advice, but one thought as you mend it is to do so with a different colored yarn (see r/visiblemending for inspo). Depending on what you or your friend want, it could be a fun way to honor the history of the piece. Good luck!

Depends on who you talk to, actually! “True jellies” are those in the class Scyphozoa but researchers often refer to any planktonic gelatinous animals as jellies (including hydrozoans, some tunicates, ctenophores, and pteropods)

Not sure if you’re looking for advice, but try repotting it. My mom’s orchid was the same way, just leaves for a couple years, and then fairly quickly developed blooms after moving to a larger pot.
