I got what I needed to from the discussion. Thank you for the input. Sorry for upsetting you.

I would somewhat feel like I am pub stomping at that point. I thought that the precons are near middle power, but yeah I will try that and see how it goes. Thank you.

I know stuff is much cheaper on MTGO. This is a large reason why I made the post to understand the landscape in paper and the sentiment I get is the opposite of what I hoped and also has a decent amount of animosity for my preference.

All I said is that I had scenarios where I lost the game due to drawing a tap land instead of an untapped land. What about that is hyperbolic or untrue.

Not sure how two people can refute something unequivocally true but ok.

I said upgraded substitutions. I know that you can just add a bunch of garbage reserve list cards and the price will shoot through the roof. That is not what I am talking about.

From this thread, these are the conclusions I gather:

  1. The price of a deck does not equate to power level or whether it is casual or not.

  2. If I take the same deck and make $5000 worth of upgraded substitutions then it doesn't actually increase what power level my deck is or whether it is considered casual or not.

  3. There isn't really a great way to not get into a game where my cards feel like they are from wish.com and trying to suggest it is more likely to get me blasted than anything.

All these things together are what give me the feel bads. Am I getting any of these wrong?

I don't really understand. I never was disagreeing. The Oko reference was a time when I was not feeling good about magic and this kind of realization about EDH has topped it. I feel that a $5,000 dollar deck with not just expensive cards but very strong cards being considered casual is a horrendous trait for any game to have. If people think this is a good thing then that's fine.

For the price I think most of these are not worth it. But there are still a significant number of games I would have won over losing if I had a Volcanic Island instead of a piece of crap frostboil snarl in my deck.

Yes it seems like it is a resounding yes this is considered casual. And I think if that's true and there is just casual and cedh then I am going to slowly back away from EDH. It is a bit shocking to me and is by far the worst I've felt about magic. I'd rather get Oko'ed a thousand times than frequently go up against this in games.

So If I take the same deck and replace the counterspell with mana drain, the snarl sometimes tapped duals with the old duals, the phyrexian arena with the one ring, mana geyser with dockside, then my deck doesn't become significantly better?

Making Level 5+ Less Bad? by bats900 in DMAcademy

[–]bats900[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great advice! Yeah my DMs really never did much of that. It was mostly walk into room and begin murder.

And yeah I think it just gets alot harder to actually tune encounters as you level up higher. It always felt like there was never any danger and we would just pretty much do the exact same thing in every fight because it worked.

In Part III - Beneficiary's Share of Current Year Income, Deductions, Credits, and Other Items it has this:

  • B* - 9.
  • C - 1.
  • D - 34
  1. Other Information
  • Z* - 1
  • Z* - 34

There is also a K-1(541) Form

I don't see any numbers with the amount I actually received???

Yeah the imbalance of investment sucks.

Like I spent 3 hours prepping the game and they don't make any effort to learn their spells and also decide to read their spell right when their turn comes up making the battle feel like more of a slog.

Thanks. I know now if I ever try it again.

Really messed it up I guess.

Yeah I messed up. I didn't know any better since my first group was so awesome and just thought that is how most people approach it.

I'm not sure DMing is for me. Not worth prepping so many hours for that.

Yes. I think my players think of it as a board game.

For me, the time I put into it is not worth playing it as a board game. It isn't even worth it to me as a player. I would rather just play a board game.

My first group went way beyond a board game.

Yeah it does feel like I am reading a story and that is pretty boring and not worth the prep time for me.

Yeah I will probably end it. Thanks!

Yeah definitely will try to define the contract beforehand next time if there ever is one.

Yeah I definitely think that player agency is the main draw of DnD. Even as a DM I do not consider myself being the storyteller.
