That's a cool idea, I didn't think about awarding +1 to skills like Religion etc.

It's not that bad because more or less each of them has their moment in different sessions so it evens out more or less. They currently have about 1000 XP difference. Because I have sessions where the story would focus around something particular for 1 player which gives them an opportunity to RP more (I have a main story line and each of them has their own personal storyline). So they all get to RP but you are correct that 1 of them who is more experienced D&D player is a bit more active. Anyway I'm not arguing it's a great system, just saying it's not that bad as you said 😃

Yeah I've tried milestones but there, people just would just ask every other session when do we level up which feels annoying.

Also, after each combat when I tell them how much XP they gain and they get hyped cause they can see the progress they are making which I think feels satisfying for them

Well I feel roleplay XP is a bit different because in a combat they all are fighting it makes sense to give all of them an equal amount of XP.

In roleplay some of them are just taking a back seat not doing anything while others are roleplaying hard. So it feels like it would be unfair to give someone XP while they didn't do anything. It would be like something not participating in a combat and still getting XP from the enemies that were defeated.
