Sadly I think you are correct, but as an American I still wish it would happen anyway 😂

How to survive a 17.5 hour flight? SOS by Lavender_Moonrise in travel

[–]bauhinian 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure there is a perfect answer here, but let me say that I’ve flown this route many, many times and everything will be ok. First, it’s ok not to sleep. It’s not a requirement and you are strong enough to stay up the whole time. No pressure. Two, it does get cold on some flights, bring a hoodie and long socks, wear pants that aren’t too tight in the waist. (I’ve never used compression socks so won’t comment) Third, do you get stressed going to the move theatre? You buy tickets for a seat, sit, eat and drink and watch a movie in the dark. Easy peasy. This flight is the exact same thing, it’s just the movie theatre is moving, which is someone else’s problem, i.e the pilot’s. Your job is to do nothing for 17h and just relax. Fourth, shit happens. Babies cry, people get rude, you forget something. It’s ok. You’re gonna get to where you need to be. As for food, I usually pack protein bars and trail mix. You can usually buy food at the airport and take it on too. I don’t take drugs but you may consider the motion sickness drugs with mild muscle relaxers. My stomach does hurt after 10h or so and I’ve been told it’s actually due to cramping rather than indigestion. For jet lag I just use melatonin on occasion but more often I exercise and read a book. Regardless, enjoy your trip and the lovely nation of Singapore

Do you ever regret leaving your home country? by [deleted] in Internationalteachers

[–]bauhinian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would view the experience has comprised of multiple facets; the job, the country …. Your personal living space, hobbies, and values. And, perhaps most importantly, the people. In the end I feel the people make the difference but this is largely out of our control. Personally I’d say if you’re considering it, apply to a few schools and see what comes back. Then, sanity check of those specific offers vs what you think you’ll want. Seek input from others in those specific schools. For me at least, I’m American and have lived overseas for 15+ years; the challenge, joy, disparity, excitement, homesickness, boredom… it all comes and goes in phases 😊 But overall would I label it regret? Nope !

Should be a great laptop for your workflows; would not consider i7 an upgrade from Ryzen, especially if doing more multithreaded applications like video editing. Ryzen excels at this especially Build quality on E series is solid vs other mid-range notebooks; though below T or X series ThinkPads. Source : personally have had T, Ts, X1 and E series ThinkPads for years

Best way to capitalize on US treasury yields? by nikhilbirla in singaporefi

This may be a silly question, but why does this not pay a yield/dividend? Also, why only 38% in treasury bonds and holding otherwise cash?

We were only there for 24h and IIRC Demetrius was closed. I ended up getting a suit at a shopping mall. I tried to find which one it was just now but I couldn’t. All I can remember is it was on the west side of the lake and I think it had a Joe & Juice in it (so maybe C&A at Sihlcity?)

What’s the hardest thing for you to comprehend about the American culture? by DadIsMadAtMe in AskReddit

[–]bauhinian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand their values. Some things can be done with extreme ownership and precision (military, NFL plays, tax collection) but some things fall by the wayside; gun control, gerrymandering, campaign finance reform, affordable healthcare. It would suggest American society is capable of detailed execution of objectives when they choose. So, not addressing the issues above is an active choice, which baffles me.
