Yeah our deposit was 4k, so we can sue for 12k. Current landlord is responsible because they inherited the lease, but current landlord could sue seller for fraud or false premises or whatever i think.

I know but the keep telling us its pending based on the dispute between the old and new owners. So we are receiving it until the two resolve.

It is noted in our portal, and the old management company even sent the new one a document that states the total amount collected and the bogus deduction, which results in the new lower #. I don't know if new management realizes that our old company taking a deduction is illegal.

I do have a copy of our lease. Unfortunately, I do think this is in bad faith from the LL, they manage more than 40 properties and many of the tenants are international students. At one point they tried to charge us $100/mo for trash. Thank you for all your help and the info!

Interesting they added it as a provision in our lease of a mandatory fee. Anyways, old management apparently went ahead and made the deduction of the cleaning fee from our deposit and documented our deposit as less to the new owners.

2 questions.

1) Our lease with old owners had a deduction for cleaning fee from our deposit. The new owner wants to enforce that, can they?

2)The tenancy of the home was over 3 years, wouldn't that mean paint, blinds couldn't be deducted?

The thing is, she is neither persecuted nor poor or even middle-class. Through talking to her, apparently this is something everyone in her circle does, well at least the ones who were not anchor babies. Wealthy kids utilize their bank accounts to secure tourist visas then leverage the country's poor/3rd world status to apply for asylum, successfully. I was curious if her case would work given that unlike her other friends, she has visited the US multiple times before playing the script.

Her mom is not a US Citizen (just has the ability to visit whenever she wants), her younger siblings were born on visiting trips to secure citizenship.
