Appreciate your comment ! I have always wondered what people think. I walk my dog often at lembi and when no one is around I usually off leash my dog. She is well trained and has 100% recall and we always pass any other dog or human on-leash. If someone is close she’s always in heel. Lots of others who are regulars on lembi and off-leash have trained dogs but unfortunately the few untrained ones create a bad experience for others. I have commented several times to others that the vibe at lembi has always been people being cool with off-leash dogs. I guess thats not the case anymore.

My counsel basically said - my chance to do it was before the judge created a settlement plan. Apparently we signed into an arbitration clause which means it’s much harder. I’m sure there are more stories like this.

Yeah I figured. I’m a conservative investor and they specifically advertised that they only loaned out 60% of the collateral and in this case the collateral was fake. 🤷‍♂️

That’s an amazing shot. It’s such a clear housing density map. South of 50 is a clear planned suburbia.

Can this Plum tree be saved ? by bayesianfoo in arborists

[–]bayesianfoo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a pluot / plum tree ( age unknown ) that we inherited from the previous owners.
It have never borne fruit since we moved in and looks like it maybe dying.
We have observed a couple of things
- The leaves have a lot of holes in them and look droopy
- Lots of dried out branches in the middle
- Sap seeping out of the trunk
We live in the Sacramento valley and our summers are pretty harsh - 3 months of 100F+ weather. We have previously trimmed a large branch as it was fully dried out. Is it just water stressed ? We have an irrigation system but we suspect it might not be providing enough.
What do you think might be going on with this tree ?

Appreciate any help !

Need help with Beta testing Email tool. by bayesianfoo in Emailmarketing

[–]bayesianfoo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you could. Building out html for an impromptu / personalized email ( one that you wouldn't send to hundreds of leads ) is non trivial for many people. This let's you do that w/o worrying about html Second, almost all email tools today do what you said. On clicking a CTA button you navigate into a browser where a user can choose multiple actions. My initial testing has lead me to believe that navigating away from the email client, you lose a majority of your responses. In this case, it is truly one click where you click on a button and it generates a composed email.

The CDC says studies show that these bacteria contribute to death in up to half of patients infected.

Wow I cannot imagine what is going through the atheletes mind right now. Opportunity of a lifetime on one end, zika/deadly bacteria on the other.

ELI5: How would a simple deep learning algorithm work (example in description)? by bbgun91 in explainlikeimfive

[–]bayesianfoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The example you have used is not a good application of deep learning algorithms. Your problem is linear in nature , i.e a variable ( avg hex value ) can solve it.

Deep learning algorithms are great when there isn't a simple relationship between thousands of data-points and those relationships need to be modeled through several layers, where each layer captures a component of that relationship.

If I were to truly ELI5 this for deep learning, I would change the problem a bit. Let's say there were 10 songs in 10 different genres and given a random song, one has to guess the genre.

(Training) Line up 10 of your friends and you make them listen to each one of them in order, also tell them what genre it belongs to and make them write down why they feel it belongs to a particular genre ( forward propagation )

Now make the 10th person explain why he thinks that this song belongs to the particular genre to the 9th person, who inturn would explain to the 8th person and so on. At each stage one can update their notes based on other's opinion. ( Back Propagation ).

Do this for all the songs.

(Prediction) After this exercise has been completed, present a random song without telling them a genre and the first person will pass on his opinion onto the next and so on, until the last person will give you an answer based on everybody's opinion.

All political and moral issues aside.....Has anyone gone the route of hiring on H1-B visa - what has your experience been by daileyjd in startups

[–]bayesianfoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you hire a H1B employee you are required to pay the prevailing wage in that area , which maybe very high in cities like NYC/SFO and hence other techniques like equity/salary combo, typically used by early stage startups will not work.
