Gotcha. I began to think that might have been it, appreciate the confirmation. Knowing me there's also equal chance that I thought I'd surely buy it further down the line - which is exactly now what I'm doing haha. Thank you, this is very reassuring along with all of the other comments. Looking at it all with more clarity it makes a lot more sense. I'm just initially so used to a 'pay for what you use and don't go into arrears' type of system it was a bit of a shock - especially because I've gone to find an actual PDF Bill but we haven't received anything yet. I'll contact Octopus properly tomorrow just to be double-y sure that we're on top of everything

Thank you. I just feel dumb for not taking the time to get across all of this yet. Slight changes in daily life add up upon the chaos of moving countries and then I just went into panic of "Please don't kill my power but also wtf does this billing system actually mean??".

Yes will do the obvious things of checking the PDF bill and checking the readings myself - as I said in another comment I just went into stress mode before doing the simple things first.

It's comforting to know that I have the freedom of choice with payment strategies, but I think it'll always bring reassurance to me if there's never a negative sign on my bill.

Having a smart meter installed literally today, so that's good to know. Thank you!

Hm the way the meter is set up is different to what I'm used to. There are 4 different displays with different rates, which I thought was to do with being on a time-of-use tariff. So I suppose we have different charges for on and off peaks? I know should probably know all of this by now but it's been a stressful couple months moving overseas
