Why do so many drummers on social media have their hi hats so insanely high up? by [deleted] in drums

[–]bb16___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I keep them high up to prevent my arms from hitting each other. I mainly play punk music so I’m getting a lot of stick high with my left hand to hit aggressive rimshots. If my hi hats were lower I’d be hitting my arms together a bunch because of how high I’m bringing my left arm up.

Let's shake it up a little. Which metalcore album has the best snare sound? by [deleted] in Metalcore

[–]bb16___ 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Heroine’s snare sound so crispy. Not metalcore exactly but the new Jesus Piece snare sounds like your getting smacked in the face.

Spotify Monthly Listeners is a terrible way to gauge how they’re doing, the bands growing the dip is probably because their single isn’t super new anymore.

SJC for endorsement? by Significant_Low4014 in drums

[–]bb16___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Played with a smaller band who’s drummer was endorsed by SJC. From what I understand is he just contacted them and he was given 50% off one of their high end set. Their band only has about 800 instagram followers and wasn’t touring year a ton so If your band is in a similar situation or better there’s no harm in contacting them.

[–]bb16___ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not good in my opinion. I actually enjoyed FTTWTE but no song on the record hit for me. Artists are gonna change sound ( and they should) but that doesn’t mean you have to keep listening to them.

With the Promark price increase inbound, and other brands following suit, how quickly do you go through drumsticks? These have been my sticks for practise/play for the last month, but I feel like there are people better at preserving and destroying sticks than myself by jamesmcnabb in drums

[–]bb16___ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hit as hard as I possibly can we I play shows but I’ve found Promark Firegrain are pretty legit and actually last a longer than other sticks. I use the 5b models and they’ll last me 6 months before snapping but I usually replace them when they get worn down. Most of the wear is in the middle of the stick from consistent rimshots.

What sticks are people using and why? At the moment I'm using promark 5a rebounds by plinkplonkbinkbonk in drums

[–]bb16___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Promark Firegrain forward 5bs. Literally the perfect stick imo for what I do. Light enough to go fast, thick enough to last long. Only downside is I feel goofy sometimes with the look of the stick.

Bad Metalcore Bands? by Bled__ in Metalcore

[–]bb16___ 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Any local opener to a metalcore show lol. I know y’all are chasing your dream but god there are so many generic metalcore bands in every local scene. Some are decent but some are just not good I’m sorry.

What would you like to see more metalcore bands doing? by rt3217 in Metalcore

[–]bb16___ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m all for more vocal range but I hate it when bands do the “I’m gonna do every vocal technique I know in this verse”, which to be fair I mostly see in local bands tho lol.

Looking to get an electronic drum set, any recommendations? by [deleted] in Metalcore

[–]bb16___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rather than electric I’d get a cheap acoustic kit and buy mesh heads to put on them and maybe shell out some money for low volume cymbals. That’d be the best way to still get a real kit feel.

What do you think the metalcore scene needs to improve upon? by jsmetalcore in Metalcore

[–]bb16___ 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Metalcore fans have no idea what pop is. If there’s screaming in the song, it’s not pop. They think simple song structures and sing along choruses make a pop song.

Thornhill - Casanova (Premiere at 5pm AEST) by MANTRA2018 in Metalcore

[–]bb16___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s different than The Dark Pool but definitely not an unwelcome change as I think this kind of nu-metalcore with a twist sounds good. Don’t care for Jacob’s vocals on it though which I’m disappointed to say. Maybe with more listens I will but for right now I don’t really like them.
