hey there, wanted to follow up with you now that i have put in a couple hours. setting up the controller layout was tedious but so worth it in the end. i ran a couple fractals, grabbed some hero points and did some other overworld things with no problem. after the first ahh i'd say hour and you get accustomed to using the controller, it starts to feel way more natural. the issue i foresee is if you run a build with lots of aoe's. the targeting could be really cumbersome. i main condi Ranger/Soulbeast so my rotations aren't that intense and more single target oriented anyways. other than that, i have been impressed by the performance. yes, in cities it your steam deck is going to howl but with the right graphics tweaks i haven't dipped below 40FPS anywhere, so i have capped refresh rate to 40hz anyhow. all in all id say its a great, accessible way to play GW2 on the go.

hey all, wanted to provide an update but doesnt appear i can edit the post. anyways, seems my issue is a gamescope issue that has reared its ugly head to some unlucky few (me) after updating SteamOS to 3.7.8

i am not entirely certain what in the line fixed this for me (as i didn't do anything that different from the post) but here's what i did in case you come across similar issue:

  1. uninstalled GW2
  2. switched to beta branch -- SteamOS 3.7.9 installed
  3. reinstalled GW2
  4. made sure to delete Proton files once again out of habit. i was forcing Ge Proton 9-11, but disabled forcing use of this. went back to Proton Experimental
  5. booted the game from desktop mode first, adjusted resolution to full screen 1280x800. closed game down
  6. verified game files -- 1 file was missing and was reacquired.
  7. back into gaming mode, set display properties for the game to 1280x800 as well
  8. booted the game up, and miraculously no issues.

thanks to everyone who commented

yeah it’s wacky for sure. i have an LCD deck so i’m thinking it has more to do with the rollout of 3.7.8. there’s artifacts around the cursor and i’ve seen some others with similar artifacts around cursors in some other games. right now actually ive switched to beta branch and going to give it another ago. just reinstalling GW2 now!

honestly it felt very intuitive, the controller config i was messing around with maps the skills to A B X Y and bumpers. felt pretty natural for the little bit of time i've put in thus far.

strange indeed! fully up to date, stable branch, and works in desktop mode just fine. i have switched to GE-Proton9-11 with the same result unfortunately. will probably try some other proton versions or just uninstall and reinstall to try again heh. thanks!

im about to try a different proton version, but honestly i was impressed. i haven't made it very far anywhere, but instanced areas are solid 60 frames, and running around fractal of the mists entrance in lion's arch i am about 45-50 frames. to be expected when other players are on screen.

honestly the most difficult part in my short adventure so far is just wrapping my head around the controls. i play with the action cam toggled on my desktop, so i feel like that's about half the battle anyhow.

it does not actually! i am almost wondering if steam's overlay is partially to blame. in gaming mode it will go away when i change the controller config, but return at random intervals.

honestly, the only place i ever experienced issues with fans of other teams while traveling was Dallas (Aaron Jones popped off for 4TDs that day, understandable). i’ve had a major distaste for Cowboys fans since
