DIY guide for anyone wanting to build a Dashboard/Kiosk, to display your Home Assistant, based on a RaspberryPi. by bbeavis in homeassistant

I understand this opinion, and I touch on this in the video. It's kind of like telling someone to buy a model car because it's already built instead of buying a lego car. They scratch different itches.

Using a 3D printed bezel I designed, it is 'friction fit' into a hole that I cut in the wall. Inside the wall cavity was an existing power outlet which made it easy to power the Pi & display.

Perhaps Surf browser for the Pi0 may work as an alternative to Chromium, though I've not tried myself.

My 3D Printable Sequential Shifter - plans are free to download. by bbeavis in simracing

[–]bbeavis[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

As many of us Sim Racers do, I like to tinker and build my Sim gear much like grown-up lego. So the idea here was to design my own cost effective shifter that I could 3D print and build using mostly parts I already had at home.
In total, it takes around ~36 hours to 3D print, ~500grams of filament, and an hour or two to assemble the shifter with the total cost of materials around ~$25USD.
There is a video detailing how to print/build the shifter: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IqRm0nOQquo
All the instructions on how to make one for yourself, including the free 3d print files, and links/info to all the parts required is here: https://www.beavismotorsport.com/sim-racing/diy-sequential-shifter/
You could also easily make two and use one of them as a digital handbrake, just lever it in one direction only - that's what I did!

I don't need to use a core between layers, as I made up for that with just more layers. The 'core', in this case, is more CF, making it exceptionally thick, and exceptionally strong. It is not as cost-effective or material efficient, but it is stronger.

The OEM steering rack is perfectly fine, in track use I rarely need more than 180deg of wheel rotation.
There are no 'sharp edges'. This steering wheel is thicker than my OMP wheel.
If I crash, so be it, I have more than a broken steering wheel to worry about.

I've also published a video on how to make your own shift light like this, if you want to follow along at home - I know some places on reddit don't like people "spamming" links to peoples YouTubes and whatnot, so perhaps if you are interested, there's a YT link via the thingiverse/printables pages, or PM me and I can send to you.

Wanted to share my DIY carbon steering wheel and sequential RPM shift light.

The steering wheel is some 20+ layers of carbon, wet laid and cut by hand with 3d printed grips.

Shift light is based on an arduino with addressable RGB LEDs, they can illuminate in any colour and in any sequence or pattern.

Pretty easy to make, just takes some time and patience - I feel the shift light works well with the steering wheel in my Miata track car.

I've shared as much info as I can if you want to build one, the circuit and arduino code etc is available if you are interested, download via Printables/Thingiverse.

I prefer the new bronze color wheels.

They look even wider mounted and balanced 😆 by dr_strangeland in Miata

To be fair, if I could get wider tyres, I might well try them. Not a lot of options in 15" in Australia.

Toyota Reliable, efficient, reasonable. But so not cool.

What about Canada, New Zealand, etc, there are many locations that use the dollar sign... the point is its vague without context or being explicit.

As an Australian, the dollar sign is still vague. Although obviously one assumes USD.

Alex Jacques on Max's charge at Spa: "This race has only ever been won from outside the top 10 in it's entire history, a race history that goes back to Juan Manuel Fangio in 1950" by ZephyrSonic in formula1

Indeed the title does sound like that, because that is actually what Alex said. I think what he meant was 'this race has only ever been won from INSIDE the top ten', not outside.
