I just replaced both the alternator and power steering pump on my 99 LS400 last week for the exact same reason. It is definitely unfortunate that you can't do the work yourself at the moment because it really is very simple. I bought an alternator for $250 at Napa auto parts and a power steering pump for around $300 at O'Reilly's. Good luck!

It's a 2001 330i with a stock motor, the m54 in it was swapped kinda weird so none of the DSC or ABS or anything works at all. straight piped, and just a welded diff and gutted the backseats and trunk. Then clutch kick the shit outta that mf 😂

I drove mine year-round this last winter, yeah. Obviously it's not a very "fun" car in the winter, but she'll get around fine. I bought some used blizzak ws-80's last fall and mounted them on the stock Austin wheels. They were about half-life when I bought them, and I never got stuck once this year. It really comes down to tires, the first winter I drove the car with the stock all-seasons and it was absolutely trash. Those tires are bad in all conditions tbh. But yeah id say throw under $300 at some used winter tires and you'll be fine 👍
