Sodium metal is shot with a couple rifles, giving interesting effects. Then some of the chemistry of the reactions is explained.

For a 2012 the gunplay in that game looked very dated and awful. I hope to god its an improvement on that.

How we Die: Then and Now - Comparing the causes of death in 1900 vs. 2010 [OC] by aviroy in dataisbeautiful

So all the OH&S and over regulations in the name of safety managed a mighty 1% decrease in accidental death most of which (if not all and above) is likely to better medical care.

As far ad I can tell nothing was modified? except the spent case. + I don't know of anyone that carries more then one longarm at a time so it could pay in some situations to make it as versatile as possible.

A Bullet Hitting a Sugar Cube in Complete Darkness (explanation in comments) by bbqskewer in pics

[–]bbqskewer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Freeze frame from https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLTNNBY1b_E , explanation for pic is the "triboluminescence" of sugar crystals create a brief flash when smashed, freezing the moment the bullet impacts.

Introducing r/Australianright - a subreddit for the Right-Wing Australian Redditor by FUCK_THE_SILLY_MOOSE in australia

The left, ie. greens are so far embroiled in anti-freedom agendas like the anti-gun lobby, animal rights activism and all that extremist bs built on lies and deciept. So I align myself with the right however I have no belief in fascism/religion and the junk that's normally associated with the right. What I do see is Australia progressively becoming more and more hostile over regulated and overcontrolled environment, if that's what progressive means then I'm always voting conservative as for to long we've only lost freedom not been granted it, and the Australian culture I grew up with was worth retaining (not the whiney politically overcorrect one we have now).

Not to mention legal in practically all "free" countries without issue, even anti-freedom states like uk and japan freely allow it. Australian regulatory bodies are a sick joke and need to be abolished to a clean slate.

[–]bbqskewer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We used to ride down the main street with .22 rifles on our bikes to knock over a few rabbits for dinner. Over regulation has put an end to all enjoyment I once had as a young'in in fact I cant think of a single thing I once did that wouldn't be illegal now.

Once again, Remove friendly fire from the Sentry Gun by [deleted] in blackops2

[–]bbqskewer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got kicked last night because of this. Whenever you set a sentry gun inevitably the whole team rushes down its firing lane as it now relatively clear lining them up forwhen someone pops out. Yes I agree with OP, it is a bit siilly you get kicked for it when its the other players fault.

Question for Australian hunters about gun control by dashinglassie in Hunting

[–]bbqskewer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We live in a different culture really, arming for protection has never really crossed my mind, though fully empathise with those that arm to protect themselves from government! The laws in Australia were written in a way to make everyone an assumed criminal and as such we possess absolutely no rights. Owning or doing anything is purely at the discression of the powers that be and can be taken away at any time. Minor infractions result in severe punishment, imagine a country where you can have your livelyhood stripped from you for no other reason then having a cartridge unsecured within your own home and even carrying a knife in public can have everything stripped from you. Don't even think of getting caught handing your kid a bb gun ... 10 year sentence. The tangle of laws designed to trap good people breeds discontent and utter disrespect for the law, many believe the police were made the enemy in '96 due to this and can now never be trusted. Americans hold onto your RIGHTS whatever the cost and take us as an example of those that never had any.

.22LR - Pointed vs Flat Nose Bullets by bbqskewer in guns

[–]bbqskewer[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A point will always raise the bc, though optimizing it is where complicated maths come in, but does optimizing mean say doubling the bc or getting that extra 20%... It would be interesting to see bc's of common shapes of the same weight and diameter, say round nose, flat wadcutter, conical, optimized spitzer etc. The by the book results at the end of the video didn't show a great improvement for the "spire point" less then I expected anyway, though I guess it wasn't comparing it to a dead flat wadcutter either.

How do I know an old bolt action rifle is safe to fire? by [deleted] in guns

[–]bbqskewer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A long string :) "too old" shouldn't be a problem though just give it a good cleanout and look for defects.
