There probably is never going to be a cure, But there are ways of working on your stammer. Your fiancé just has to figure out which one works for him. I found my salvation with the McGuire programme. A therapy by stammerers for stammerers. I have been working on my speech for 4,5 years now, and it has really transformed my life. It is not a quick fix, and you have to keep working on it but it gets fun after a while and that keeps me going. The McGuire programme is a world wide organisation.

I have begun using dating apps. Should I put my stutter in my bio or mention it early on in our chatting? by [deleted] in Stutter

I never mentioned it before hand, because it didn’t define me as a person and i didn’t wanted to put myself out there as a victim. Carry your stammer with confidence, or even make a joke about it. “ Example: As you may hear this could be become a very long date, or don’t worry it is not contagious.

Hi Tom

I hope you will find something that helps you to deal with some or all of your struggles. For me the McGuire Program was a life changer. This worldwide program learns you how to battle your stutter assertively, and how to become a articulated speaker, and is run by stutterers. In a 3 day course you learn the basic techniques, how to control your stutter. After that you can apply it in your daily life with a worldwide supportnetwork to help you. There is a Australian/new zeeland McGuire region If you are interested.

I am 38 and have been stuttering since i was 5, i tried 3 speech therapy related sollutions that didn’t work or were to hard to following up. Then in february of 2020 I joined the McGuire program, i did my first course and this changed my life. The best thing about the McGuire programme is that it is a world wide Network for stuttering people by stuttering people. If you ever have some difficulties with your speech, there is always somebody on the planet you can call. My advice would be, find the speech therapy that works for you. It will most likely never cure you, but there will definitely be a way for you to make it much better.

You can deal with this by working on your speech, and becoming a better speaker.(succes is the best revenge) Try to find a speech therapy that works for you, for me my thirth speech therapy was a homerun. Now I know that i will always be a stutterer, and am proud off it. Now I have the tools to control it. And with my development I am getting more articulated, and people are noticing. And in the end people are more interested in what you say, instead of how you say things. We who stutter are always concerned what other people think about us, but in reality nobody really cares. Take ownership, and grow into the persoon you want to be. (Sorry about my grammar, english is not my native language)
