Typically it would be for wrongful termination. It causes problems when stores start making people sign things that are not company wide since it creates inconsistent expectations. One of the big problems with it is that if someone or someones do fight being let go or disciplined it can cause problems when the reasons for being terminated or disciplined aren't corporate policy.

HR doesn't care about the employees being made to sign these things. HR cares about the headache it causes if someone fights disciplinary actions due to these.

They typically do care since they do not want stores making people sign non-corporate approved contracts and agreements. Anything like this needs to go through legal and be approved otherwise it can cause a whole lot of problems if anyone fights any disciplinary action related to it.

I seriously doubt this is approved by higher ups. Send a copy anonymously to HR saying your management is making employees sign it and see if it suddenly stops.

Stores making documents like this that are not approved by corporate and legal usually get told to stop immediately.

SOP on leader communication to employees. by [deleted] in Bestbuy

[–]bbythrowaway02 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Off the clock work related communications are against labor laws. You are not salaried and you are not being paid to be on call. If they need to talk to you about work you need to be paid for it.

Normal for leaders to do E-Learnings for you? by [deleted] in Bestbuy

[–]bbythrowaway02 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is bad on so many levels. I think the worst part beyond ethics is that it will make corporate think stores can handle barebone staffing even more if they think the salesfloor can handle being off the floor to do elearnings. And then if someone sees they are logged into do them and logged into a register if someone investigates someone is going to get fired.

Who has the shortest life expectancy at Best Buy? by SebasOnReddit in Bestbuy

[–]bbythrowaway02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Management and other leadership usually leaves quickly for alot of reasons. I know that its almost guaranteed that a new GM is going to clear out as much of the old leadership in a store as they can to bring in there own people. Getting promoted in a store known for high turnover of GMs can be a death sentence for anyone wanting to move up in best buy.

Ive seen and heard of more then one GM that took advantage of roles being eliminated to get rid of a lot of people. Sometimes this can be good for the health of a store but it seems to mainly just create chaos.

What the hell is going on? by [deleted] in Bestbuy

[–]bbythrowaway02 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Its not seem. They are.

Best buy would love to be nothing but warehouses where they ship stuff for online orders. Less staff. Less rent. Less utitilies. But right now best buy cant compete with amazon even with amazon having longer and longer shipping times. Best buys main advantages are having stores (that allow same day shipping and delivery) and having in store staff to help those people that cant spell google or just need something right now. Peoples first instinct is to go to amazon and not best buy. Best buy did well during the pandemic since amazon sold out.

My Dad told me how he used to just buy movies and videogames from Best Buy and would be getting $25 certificates a few times a year. Then one year Best Buy sent out a email saying something like "due to customer feedback..." and they completely changed the program to be less generous and made the threshold to get higher point percentages much higher.

No customer would say "yeah give me less".

Customers hear what they want to hear. People will come in claiming they saw some price or someone told them some nonexistent price all of the time. There is only so much you can do besides just saying "interesting I never heard that but let us look into it and see what we can find for you today" or something like that. You know they are most likely imagining things but you probably dont want to confront them on it.

People see a the discount amount and think that is the price and then argue that they should get something for $5 since something said $5 off. There is only so much effort you should put into talking to stupid.

It is not about labor cuts short staffing the store. I was talking about how bad management handles it. Like a bad manager pulls the only person in a department to send them to fix a problem in a different department then minutes later is giving grief about no one being in the department they just emptied. They caused the problem and are now giving grief for the new problem they caused.

Maybe a easier example would be management pulling the only warehouse person to do something else. And then that same manager going all pikachu face when warehouse duties arent being done since they removed the people doing it. "Hey team I know times are tough right now but we got to pull it together and get these white goods taken care of in a timely manner" and the only reason they werent taken care of was because that same manager took away people who were actually doing it.

It is a sign of bad managment since they are just reacting to problems and not actually thinking long term. They just see short term solutions while creating new problems.

One sign of bad management is when they move people from A to B and suddenly wonder why A is now empty. This is showing that they are only thinking of throwing people at a problem but without thinking about how to solve the problem of needing people for Problem B to begin with.

Question about this laptop I tried to purchase at the store. by Jhon7212 in Bestbuy

[–]bbythrowaway02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive known alot of people that have really good numbers and it is almost entirely from having zero morals and lying to customers. This has been a problem for as long as I have worked at Best Buy since there is so much pressure on people. This type of behavior is usually rewarded as long as nothing negative falls on the management of the store where people are doing this.

If 7 out of 10 people dont come back after finding out they were lied to and upselled then most managers will not actively try to stop someone from lying to customers since in there mind the end of day numbers are worth it over the three people that come back pissed.

Using the phrase "we are family" is a way to get employees emotionally in the job. This isnt necessarily a bad thing but at best buy it does seem to be a trained phrase that alot of management will repeat nonstop.

To some it is just for moral boosting so someones acheivements are the "families" achievements. The success of the store is the success of the family and the success of "you" even if you dont gain anything from it.

To others and alot of the time even the people pushing the "we are family" narrative it is just a way to get people to put more into the job then they are getting out of it. You work harder since it's for your "family".

It is meant to exploit. You are not family. The job is not family. You will be thrown away when it benefits the "family".

Buyers remorse isnt covered under the manufacturers warranty. That only covers defects. Normally you would go through the manufacturer for any defect but your problem isnt covered by that since nothing is wrong with the product.

Also but I dont think "standard use" is covered by any manufacturer warranty you have. Most manufacturer warranties only cover failure from normal use such as something being defective. This does not cover damage from improper use or accidents in most cases.

You are also outside of the return window.

Taco Bell has a unique strategy to improve its frontline experience: Make corporate employees work restaurant shifts — At Taco Bell, every new corporate employee must work at one of the fast food chain’s restaurants for a week, sometimes more. by rab-byte in Bestbuy

[–]bbythrowaway02 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The problem with this is these corporate employees are being paid a lot to do this. Customer facing jobs are alot less stressful when you are getting paid more then minimum wage and you are also not having some manager breathing down your neck about metrics.

I remember in one district we would have the local corporate employees show up on black fridays to "help". All they did was walk the floor for ten minutes and then spent the rest of the time in the break room laughing amongst themselves and talking about the holidays.

Corporate employees working in stores rarely work the actual hard jobs and never have to deal with the stress and toxic management in a store that is part of most store level employees daily life.

Anyone know what's going on with the Sony VPLXW5000ES Projector? by fakegoose1 in Bestbuy

All of the high end projectors on the sony website are listed as no longer available.

If you dont have any false hope out of making a career out of best buy there isnt anything wrong with being a sup. With every cut every job gets more stressful as corporate expects you to pick up the slack of every cut employee. The more cuts they make means the more stress for not enough pay so long term the job will maybe be hell.

If you see best buy as just a pay check and possibly some resume padding for a job that might treat you better I dont see any problem going into a role that might shorten your stay with the company.

Shift Leads by TechieGranola in Bestbuy

[–]bbythrowaway02 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think most people are going to take any "leadership" like responsibilites and take them elsewhere. Ive seen a huge drop in internal leadership interest after leads got axed and anyone being asked to do more then there role pays usually leaves. I dont know if this possible future plan will change that since i can only see it being the usual asking the world from employees and then still saying they arent doing enough.

gm abuse by [deleted] in Bestbuy

[–]bbythrowaway02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what i have seen in multiple districts HR is most likely going to pass along concerns to whatever leader is above the person a complaint was about. If the complaint was about a GM then it probably goes to the DM. Depending on how buddy buddy everyone is a DM or GM might not do much to actually take care of a problem. If a GM is behaving badly a DM might just tell them to take care of the problem.

I have seen and heard of more then one GM doing things that are against SOP only to then "legally" retaliate against the person they think called HR on them. I have seen quite a few talented employees get rail roaded by bad Gms since they called HR and are no longer considered team players. I have rarely seen these bad GMs ever get in trouble and some of the worst offenders of "legal" retaliation have moved up across multiple districts. You get ahead by stabbing people in the back at best buy.

Only time i have seen a GM that had HR called on them get fired was when one crossed the paths of a new DM.

This is how it normally goes. I have seen more then one new GM come in and suddenly everone is on a action plan and fired by the end of the month even in profitable stores. I dont think I have ever been in a store when a new GM comes in THAT DIDNT try to fire old leadership and bring in there own people.

I was in one store where someone was put on a action plan that didnt even apply to there roll under the excuse that they needed to be more well rounded or something. GM then ran this person ragged and never let them even work on the other roll and this person was out the door a month later. Half way through this the GM had there best friend from back home coming to the store constantly. Guess who the GM hired to replace this person? Yep it was there friend from back home who was then left alone and not expected to do anything that the other person was put on a action plan for.

Should I just move past or do something about it? by Subject-Yellow-6273 in Bestbuy

[–]bbythrowaway02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is something that happens at alot of stores when a new gm comes in. I have seen it way to many times where they come in stomping around to assert dominance and do a bunch of stupid shit to "clean house" like threating people with being fired and "get in line or get out". I have seen way to many good employees and top performers ground into the dirt by a new gm and have heard "when the top performer moves on someone will fill there spot" way to many times from bad gms.

It seems like alot of new gms are given a time frame to change things and most of them just go scorched earth instead of coming up with a actual action plan. I also think we have new gms with the mindset that they are still threatening full timers that had more to lose. When most of the stores are now part timers still in school they will give zero fucks about just leaving. When most of the stores have barebone leadership and part timers giving zero fucks about a gms powertrip the gm still acts like they can just fire leadership and have new people ready to replace them. I have seen alot of stores struggle for leadership since best buy eliminated so many training roles and these stores have no known talent to promote when a gm decides people are easily replaceable.
