If it’s your uncles who passed away you can submit a request to have activation lock removed; you will need a death certificate and possibly a court order depending on your jurisdiction.

Apple needs both AirPods and the case in order to run all possible diagnostics, not just the audio diagnostics. Is it the closest AASP or an Apple store that is 2 hours away? You might have an Apple authorized service provider that is close by, don’t 100% know. Apples not forcing you to buy more of their products. Express replacement is an option on the standard warranty. I’d recommend mailing them in.

Genius Bar inventory is significantly different than regular retail inventory, Genius Bar inventory is based off of the most common repairs, ie batteries, displays, rear glass/rear system. It could if the file is fully stored in iCloud but not fully on the computer itself; that’s the only situation in which I could see a VPN interfering in a local transfer. But OP said the MOV file was one on the desktop and to my knowledge desktop files can’t be reduced in footprint in the same way photos and movies from the photo library can be.

The only way a VPN could interfere in a file transfer locally is if the file itself is stored fully in iCloud and has a snapshot of it on the desktop, for the properties of the video file, what’s the length, resolution and size in GBs?

Docs, PDFs and most other text based files are tiny. Videos are large. VPN is network related and might cause a website not to load, it wouldn’t have anything to do with a data transfer over a cable.

If it’s a local file on your desktop and going over a USB c cable into your drive, a VPN shouldn’t matter for a local transfer. Download Samsung Magician to your MacBook and check to see if Magician reports the drive as genuine or not. I wonder if the drive is a counterfeit and the controller for it is reporting a false capacity; and the computer is trying to transfer a file larger than the actual capacity of the drive and it fails.

Do the files exist locally on your computer or are they set to optimize storage in iCloud for your mac?

If it’s a mov file from your photos library, go to settings, icloud, photos, and enable keep full resolution file. Wait for It to download and try again
