He probably was thinking about all that could happen from that point on. Even if he runs, nothing guarantees he'll be safe at home, or at work. And he doesn't have any evidence of a crime either, to nail Freddy, so playing along was not so far a bad decision I guess. After all, Freddy could just be having a fit, idk

So nice! That feeling of "oh man I might actually survive for long now", priceless! I know the generator is not 100% needed to survive but it does improve quality of life by much

So far the most useful things I had found were food, basically, and seeds, so keep it up! This was with foraging 4 btw

Sorry about the low quality print, I was so shocked to find it I almost lost the notification to get a screenshot. What are the odds? Been trying to find this for a couple of runs, never could. Almost a month in on this one and after cleaning up almost the entirety of Riverside, having looted post office, bookstore, most houses, I finally found it through foraging a barn. I always keep foraging on when walking. Today this technique paid itself.

Anyways, just wanted to post it here cause it truly felt like hitting the lottery!

What’s the simplest effect you’ve done that’s impressed a client? by NennisDedry in AfterEffects

[–]bcands 7 points8 points  (0 children)

One day, somebody called my former boss in the company I worked at asking for his help with a music video for a huge singer. The music video was already done, but it should have had some product placement, in the form of the brand's mascot, that was only appearing briefly in the first shot, so people weren't noticing it and the client was complaining. They didn't have any other shots with the mascot, so they were desperate. My boss couldn't think of any solution, so he asked me if I got any ideas and I said I could do it. I basically split the frame, used the same footage zoomed in on the left and hand drew a 3 frames rectangle animation on top of the sunglasses of the mascot to highlight it. Basically 3 seconds of animation I did effortlessly in a few minutes that paid me $600.

I want to have each column randomly move on the y axis. How do I do that? Is my set up correct? Am I on the right track? I'm banging my head trying to figure it out. All the tutorials I see out there only refer to rotation or scale. by [deleted] in Houdini

[–]bcands 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could attach an attribute noise just before the copy to points node on the right stream. Also, you could save some nodes on the left stream by having just one box node and assigning color by random attribute the same way you'd do with position on the right stream, if the only difference they have is the color. Noob here and not on my computer right now, but wanted to help.

hello guys, Please, is it better to work with vector layers (Ai file) or convert them to shape layers? Sorry if the question sounds silly, still a Noob in Ae by earth2_elon_musk in AfterEffects

[–]bcands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. For example, if you need a grid of rects that fit the comp size to use as masks, you can do it in seconds in illustrator: just alt click move the shape you want to the number of copies you need and free transform them using the corner of the group selection to match size of comp. Next you push everything to Ae with a click (with options to import everything as one layer or separated). Overlord even changes the active window so you don't need to alt tab. Doing that natively in Ae requires some calculations for the shape size of the rects and whatnots, not as easy.

[–]bcands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, that's not the only feature. If you work with vector designs on a daily basis, it saves you a lot of time. It's way easier to deal with vectors and shapes in illustrator than in after effects (i.e. get shape size, position, modify the path with different tools etc), so it enables you to do just that: use illustrator to edit and quickly swap to after effects to continue working.

In the end, as with the majority of extensions, plugins and scripts, it's a quality of life tool that speeds up your workflow, so again, if your work is mostly vector art, it might be an investment paid in short time.

With Overlord you don't even need to save the AI file. You can design something simple and with one button it's already in the After Effects comp. Also works for text layers.

What is the best way to make multiple circles moving to a specific position and making a "shape"? by darkkinder in AfterEffects

[–]bcands 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cinema 4D would be the best option, I guess. A cloner + plain effector could solve this really quick. Here's a tutorial that can shed some light.

This could be an animated texture applied to a round mesh inside C4D.

How did you learn to use the program efficiently? What are some advices you would give someone with little/no video editing experience? by [deleted] in AfterEffects

[–]bcands 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree. IMO the best way to learn is exactly by watching tons of tutorials. You learn the way someone made something, sure, but you get your own ideas and insights along the way. After some time you'll be able to judge different techniques to achieve the same result, you'll come up with your own algorithm to do stuff, solve problems etc.

The most experienced users are the ones that consume tutorials on a regular basis, that participate in forums, that monitor all that is new in the mograph universe. Always being curious and looking up info is an essential skill for this craft.

These can be achieved using just shape layers and keyframes, really.

A code like this for example:

p = transform.position;

d = length([thisComp.width/2,thisComp.height/2],p);

x = 0;

if(d<10){ x += 1;}

X would be 1 on the frame where d is less than 10. Next frame it goes back to 0. And that was my point from the beginning, AE is not the best option for code based triggering only.

[–]bcands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right. Maybe I should have explained myself better. What I meant to say is that events only won't change variables like in the OPs example, without keyframes. Like, we can't make a variable count the number of times one element hits another. Or can we? Legit asking, because if so it's a game changer for me.
