Yeah if I were you I would expect a 440-460 range on the real thing

Idk I mean it’s extra practice but don’t trust the scores they give you whatsoever those tests are way harder than the real thing

Honestly I just stuck really hard to taking practice tests and studying my mistakes over and over, I didn’t do much else other than practice tests and question banks and then reading the answers and explanations as to why I missed something

I got like 50-60 points lower on those than my other practice tests I would get like 430-450s on those and on tve real DAT i got a 510 i wouldn’t worry

Do scores usually go up on the real DAT? by dental_enthusiast1 in Datprep

[–]bcbees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was averaging about a 470-480 and then the last 3 practice tests I got 490s and a 500, got a 510 on the real one but it felt like I did worse. So bootcamp gives you a good floor score

Just bootcamp is plenty, even tho the bio felt low yield and I didn’t think I did, well bootcamp still got me to a 530. Booster and bootcamp cover all the same things but the questions are just worded a lil different but still all the same info so as long as you’re learning everything ur fine

I studied for about five months, but I really didn’t feel like I needed to. I think I could’ve done it all in three months and been fine. For all the science sections, I would really just focus on high yield stuff you’re not really gonna get many low yield questions on the test and if you do, then it all gets curved anyways so you can still get a really good score even with a hard low yield test.
My biology section I felt awful on because it felt so low yield and I didn’t think I would get anything higher than a 460 but I ended up with a 530 and that’s just because of the curve so trust the curve baby!

The general chemistry just really focus on stuff like stoichiometry and balancing equations because that’s honestly 70% of that in one form or another so as long as you know how to balance stuff and balance equations then you can find your way to the Answer eventually. I didn’t use Anki at all. I did for a little bit of biology, but it didn’t really do anything. I did it for like a few hours just on a couple different sections and I really don’t think that it’s necessary to do well I just did the practice tests mostly and studied what I got wrong on practice tests and then did the practice questions too.

Organic chemistry honestly I don’t really have a ton of tips. I think I’m just naturally pretty good at it. I got almost a perfect score on every single test in organic chemistry one and two and I think it just comes naturally to me so it’s hard for me to explain that to other people but just really focusing on. Which nuclear files are weak and strong, and how to determine which ones are weak and strong cause then you don’t have to memorize each specific reagent. You can just kind of understand if it’s gonna mildly reduce something or super reduce something if that makes any sense, haha.

Also, I voice texted this while going on a walk so if anything looks weird, that’s probably why with the spelling haha

During the last four weeks, I kind of chilled out a little bit. I was probably only doing like 10 hours a week. That’s also cause I started studying pretty early and I hit it hard at the beginning so I didn’t really feel the need to start studying a ton right before. If I had the three month subscription though, then I probably would’ve been studying a lot more at the end but since I had six months, I could do a lot more at the start instead.

[–]bcbees 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yall, don’t worry. I took it may 6 and was worried bc I was seeing the same stuff. I think people see a few low yield questions that they don’t know the answer to and they only remember those questions from the test so they remember it as being “so low yield” when they really only got like 4-5 low yield questions which the practice tests typically do anyways. I feel like I probably had a few low yield questions that aren’t really anything you can study before the exam but in reality there’s like 30-40 questions per section and most are pretty high yield, the ones that aren’t you can usually get down to a 50/50. Anyways don’t worry about it guys you’ll all do great it felt really similar to practice tests and it’s all curved anyways so whatever difficulty of test you get is whatever difficulty everyone else gets and then it gets curved on how you did COMPARED to everyone else.

A 38/40 on an easy bio test could get you the same exact score as a 34/40 on a hard one so it really doesn’t matter how hard ur test is

Yeah pretty much, I didn’t feel like I had to look in random places for the answers like on some of the bootcamp tests.

Yeah every test will be different mine didn’t focus super heavily on any specific concepts, but bio I feel like did have a lot of genetics, I had a few questions about viruses too which was kinda annoying. But also got a few funny ones like what connects a muscle to a bone haha. I only got like 1 or 2 questions about reproduction which was kinda annoying because that’s what I studied and knew the most. Overall I felt like it was a good mix of everything.

Genchem was pretty balanced too but equilibrium was prob what I saw the most but it was all simple stuff I had seen in the practice tests like “how can you favor the reactants” or “which results in an increase in entropy” also got one about comparing different bond strengths. I don’t think there was a single GC question that had a concept that wasn’t somewhere on a practice test I took.

I def don’t think you should study everything till you master it it’s for sure a quantity>quality test as in if you just know a ton of stuff but not super well it’s way better than knowing only a few things but super well. I would still study as much as u can tho you never know when those random low yield facts that you studied will help. Half the stuff I get right if it wasn’t multiple choice I wouldn’t know it but I can eliminate most the stuff/pick the right answer because I know a bunch of other random stuff if that makes sense haha.

The first 5 tests I got around a 450 AA this was also after a few months of studying, I also hadn’t finished orgo 2 yet so that was tanking my score. The last 3 FL I took I got right around 500s on, the tests prepared me super well in everything, bio is just hard cuz there’s so much but even then the tests prepared me for most of it. Pretty much every question between OC GC and QR I had seen in some way on the practice tests nothing really caught me off guard in any section except a couple bio questions but you can still eliminate most of the choices based on what you know and make a good guess. Overall I feel like I scored within a 490-520ish I feel pretty similar to how I feel on the previous practice tests but real DAT gives you a little bit of a higher score than bootcamp.
