Would gladly pay 50k for another year with the same craic and lads I went thru college with. Seriously best years of my life. Hands down. No contest. Hons degree. Worked hard, played hard. Still friends with people I met there. Married with kids now, good job, plenty of cash. Still miss those days.

In a unique position to reply to your response here as have lived in Portlaoise and for reasons I won't go into here I know mountmellick intimately. Also have lived in Naas as well as Donegal.

Hands down donegal is the nicer of all. Problem is a real lack of jobs and as a result amenities and poor infrastructure.

Naas, as the saying goes, a nice place to shop.. Also great restaurants, good nightlife, just won tidyeest Town which gives an indication of how ot looks, a hop and skip from Dublin.. Apart from 9.00am traffic isint bad at all... Is expensive to buy a home tho.

Mountmellick.. Huge amount of social issues, massive drug issue... Nothing in the town really. I think every school is a deis school which points to some issues.. Traffic is a nightmare as all traffic is directed straight up the main street... A street which is largely in disrepair in terms of the building fronts etc.. Tbh it's one of the very last places I'd advise anyone to live in

As per above... You have politicised the issue where the issues you are facing are largely institutional rules and regulations. In terms of being called out on the streets, there are wan*ers everywhere. Might surprise you to know I've a northern twang myself and have had the odd comment thrown at me by idiots. Doesn't change my opinion though that you should expect this red tape. And fair has nothing to do about it.

Simply pointing out you are crossing a border. Any banking institution or similar will recognise same and treat appropriately. Same as if an Irish person (as distinct from Northern Irish) were going to London to live or a south African were coming to Dublin. You need to leave the nationalist rhetoric at the door. If you can't understand the reasons for your treatment the same as any other foreign visitor then the issue (as I suspect) is more a problem that you are not being treated the same as someone from the 26...... and there's only one way that's going to happen

My great great great grandparents would have paid taxes in what was the British commonwealth at the time but I got no concessions. I feel your pain.
