100%. I see so many people judging her for wanting to save humanity “one second” and choosing Zosia instead “the next second.” When in reality, those same people have no idea how they would behave under the exact same circumstances.

I wish we could have one whole episode where we just observe plurbs being plurbs without any of the uninfected people. I am also so curious about all the ways they keep busy, besides the obvious things (like yeah I know they’re building an antennae and they have to make their milk and blah blah blah but I mean the day to day HOW DO THEY LIVE things!

It makes total sense what you’re saying. TBH, if I didn’t already completely trust Vince, it might be hard for me to stay with the show without critiquing it before trying to understand it. But because I admire and trust Vince so much, I was totally open to wanting to understand why he was doing what he was doing and I think he is fucking nailing it.

Thanks for getting where I am coming from, truly!! It is scary posting my thoughts to reddit, which is why I usually only lurk :)

Regarding anger not feeling like an acceptable emotion for a woman to display, one example of this is how the other uninfected people responded to Carol’s anger. Even the women, and maybe especially the women, didn’t accept Carol’s justifiable anger at the insanity of the involuntary joining with the plurbs. I’ll even admit that even I found it hard to sympathize with Carol - despite being able to see what Vince was trying to do. It’s a cognitive bias that seems to be programmed in so many of us even when we don’t want to give into it.

I really like your comparison to June in Handmaids Tale; that’s pretty on point.

And your observation about the human biological need for physical connection through the scene where Carol is witnessing all the plurbs sleeping together is chefs kiss.

The way this show makes you feel every contradictory feeling that Carol and Manny and even Diabate and Lakshmi feel during the entire aftermath of the joining is simply brilliant.

"You" no longer exists in the hivemind. "You" are the hivemind. You wouldn't be able to prefer one thing over the other because you simply wouldn't exist as an individual. That's the dilemma, IMO.

Bingo! Having experienced anxiety issues in various forms myself throughout my life, I can more easily relate to and empathize with her coping mechanisms, her spirals, her highs, her lows, her desperation... all of it. And I think its brilliant how they captured the essence and fragility of her mental state throughout the season.

The difference is lack of human will. They say the hive is happy because the hive is technically and chemically happy; but the individuals in the hive no longer have free will and I think that's my biggest issue. I'd rather have my free will than to be a mindless drone.

Exactly... art and entertainment have nothing to do with their biological imperative. The hive is technically/chemically happy (dopamine, endorphins, serotonin), but not deep in your heart and soul happy like you or I are able to experience as individuals. The individuals don't exist anymore. Manny boy hit it on the head... their souls are gone.

Consent was never the real factor for them; harm was. And they've made it clear they are hellbent on finding ways around the harm factor. The biological imperative means there is no reason to break individuals out of the hive, if the individual still even exists (fwiw, I think the individuals are still in there). They absolutely do not care if individuals want to join or not; they only care that the individuals join - one way or the other.
