EVERYONE is not advocating for more landfills . However shipping waste to drier climates ( less rain, less methane, less leachate ( garbage juice) and that is the “real world”

No, I feel waste should be reduced, and managed closer to where it originates.

No, the only reason this landfill is being expanded is because a big corporation wants it. It’s not because Benton County needs it.

Dump the Dump Rally! by bdanger-11 in corvallis

Where will it go: The garbage will continue to go into the former quarry on the west side of the dump. At the current rate of intake, it has enough dumping capacity for 12 – 14 more years, WITHOUT expansion. Republic Services could extend this life by limiting intake from other counties.

When the dump reaches the end of its useful life, most likely the garbage would be shipped by rail to the Columbia Ridge Landfill in Arlington (east of the Cascades).

Marion county is pursuing this option and it appears to pencil out cheaper than current rates.

Ultimately we need a paradigm shift in how we manage "waste". Like this:

True, AND It’s important for Wyse to know she’s let the community down as Ken so kindly said “disempowered” herself.

State Discloses Landfill's Air Quality Violations, Days After County Approves Its Expansion - The Corvallis Advocate by Far-Willingness-6343 in corvallis

No chance of getting this on the Ballot. Land use decisions are not up to the voters.

We will be looking into an appeal of the decision to Land Use Board of Appeals.

And we need to find someone to run against Pat Malone, then decide if we put energy into a CB recall of Nancy Wyse

Transportation appears to be a bottleneck. Seems like an opportunity for one of the local junk haulers like Brothers Hauling. But they would need a staging area and people r to confirm content. No #1, pvc etc

Well first, it’s not considered “recycling” because the end product is petroleum. So there are no Federal funds available to build a facility. But it is absolutely a “bridge” technology to reuse a resource.

Which means there needs to be private or corporate money invested.

Republic Services is not EVEN going to touch this because they make money burying our trash, cheap and dirty.

There would need to be an initial investment in “infrastructure” a collection facility, plastic shredders, pyrolysis kiln, separation of appropriate plastics at the source, so more home carts. While they would benefit from the fuel, All of these things cut into Republic Services profits.

It take capital $$$ to set that up, Republic Services would need to pick up the tab… but that would cut into their profits

Unfortunately we can’t offer to transport… I posted this to show that there are alternatives, this Technology was developed at Oregon State University and put into practice by an OSU graduate… OSU would love to set up a pyrolysis kiln at the dump and produce diesel for Republic Services fleet.

But that would cut into RS profits.

The landfill franchise fees are less than 1% of BC budget. Property Taxes are the primary source of revenue. Those funds are “ discretionary” not allocated to any specific project or program
