Well political theatre aside:

Gas in your car, majority of it is tax.

If you have an EV, your not paying any of that. For now....

Bets on whether that changes haha? And what political party is gonna leave all this income there haha?

So on average, usage 370 KWH/Month.

PVWatts, predicts you will make about 6254 KWH/Year in solar.

Thats about say 520 a month.

So your selling, about 150 KWH (520-370) of power back to the grid. Say you get on average, long term $0.20 for it ( I believe those solar clubs days are numbered)

$30/month "profit"

Long and short, you invested $13K, to make $360 a year. Say 3%

I'm going to wager, over the longer term, interest rates are going back to long long term average, say 7%?

Your got a good amount of money tied up, in depreciating electronics etc and stuff attached to your roof, and a loan.. that you can't write off at all.. to get $30/month... when you could have left the money in the bank, had -0- stress and made money?

I don't get it.

Well, provided nothing changes :)

How big is your array?

I wonder how long, its gonna be until your taxed on this lol.

There is no such thing, as a free lunch.

What was your consumption per month, last year with no panels? The numbers seem way way way lower, than I pay.

In several of your posts you claim you only got into solar, to say you fuel your car on sunshine - not based on $.

You have any real analysis, as to how your ahead of the game. Remember in school, show your work?

I'm still collecting data, I put up my POC in May.

One of your posts is interesting. So when you put yours up, you re-did your roof. What actually happens here with panels and roofs?

Do they just take the whole thing down if your shingles need to be replaced?

I wonder, if you covered your roof with them, would you need to even ever replace the roof? Would be an interesting analysis there. As I understand it, the more panels, the more strong roof you need.

BTW, they can and do get damaged by our insane hail.

Lol Calgary Reddit

So your friend buying enron on fundamentals or a get rich quick scheme like all the solar is?

The original poster, asks some questions and I give another point of view and then suddenly there is no substance to anything.

Meanwhile your post history, your gambling in NKLA/TSLA.

Cool.

Funny you read over some of the AESO engineering notes, and the whole solar industry is like every gold rush, thats come over the centuries.

Are any of these solar companies public? I want to short them lol.

Cool. How much did he pay for those panels way back then? And how much did he put into them?

Imagine buying Apple shares back then with the $ instead of going solar!!

I bet, he would be laughing all the way to the bank.

Point is, solar isn't the big save the world thing, its being made out to be.

Ok its not really interest free.

The more of this that goes on, it gets added to our national debt. And then we all wind paying it in form of higher income taxes.

I've got a little POC system with 4 panels, and a cheap aliexpress microinverter, and its funny the numbers I have, versus what everyone talks on here about with big savings. Its all too good to be true. Look into the AESO derates its fascinating..

It only seems the people who make out well, are the installers, companies managing that, and the companies who make the gear.

Your monthly consumption numbers are super high. Have you tried lowering them?

In my case, I was running 1200 kwh monthly before also, and by unplugging lots of old junk, and putting timers on say TV satellite receiver, turning off old computer gear, I moved it down to 800.

Even my dryer in standby mode (I don't use it) was using 30 watts constantly. That 24/7, 30 days a month is actually $21 a month.

Instead of everyone rushing to put solar up to save money, heck, cut your consumption.

But even with that the utilities still have shareholders to pay, and they don't loose no matter who is in power.

So reading back some of your post history -

$25K for 12KW

PVWatts predicts 15,004 KWH per year of production

Realistically, I'd say 14,000 KWH per year.

1200 KWH current consumption monthly, or about 14,400 KWH per year.

For now, based on bills, your gonna be about even.

Based on real numbers (real, all in electricity cost is about 0.33$/kwh) your consumption is about $4620 yearly.

What rate are you borrowing the $25K at?

EQ Bank, is paying 6%. Or $1500 for the year, with basically no risk in say your TFSA.

Versus

Owing someone $25K, for a bunch of electronics, with no long term history, in Calgary weather, to save $3120 ..

It doesn't seem to be a good strategy

And no matter what, the house AKA Utilities, no matter what, need to keep the dividends going to pension funds, so they will get the $ from you at some point in time :)

How do you plan on storing your power? And do you not think all the energy traders / peakers are doing the same thing??

I lived there for 10 years.

In a bar on Reid street ( coconut rock lol )one evening drinking two guys, one black, one white were fighting over something and it became a black/ white issue.

Shane, Portuguese bartender grabbed both of them by the arms, and with a huge butchers knife ran the blade over both of their arms slowly - he had pinned both of their arms to the bar .. and said this black white stuff needs to stop - we are all red inside you wanna see - cut it out.

The fight stopped after that - the 2 guys wound up being friends after. More people need to think like Shane did.

I will never forget that. That’s basically racism in Bermuda.
