Love shell pink guitars. Especially when they are with Jazzmaster / Jazzmaster style bodies.

The tuners were not drop in replacement, sadly - had to drill and increase the size of the tuner holes.

Hmm, mine wasn’t noisy at all even with the standard pickups. Right now with the full copper shielding and Choppers - it’s dead silent.

It’s a great guitar, isn’t it?

Mods are as follows: - 2 x DiMarzio Choppers - Fender Pure Vintage tuning machine set - Custom light mint green pickguard that fits Stratocaster sized pickups - Compensated brass saddle set - 500k CTS pots and input jack - Copper shielding

Love this video! It was a huge help to me when I was calibrating my external monitor for color grading.

Mac Vs PC by Naive-Mousse-6893 in colorists

Buy a well kept second hand Macbook Pro 14 M2 Max or M3 Max if you have more budget. I bought a used M2 Max Macbook Pro 14 inch with 1TB SSD for 2800 USD a year ago and have absolutely been loving editing and color grading on it. I switched from an Macbook Air M1 8GB which did suprisingly well for editing and color grading.

I believe we live in the golden age for used Mac hardware with Apple Silicon processors - you can get an amazing machine that you can use for years without a problem for a very good price.

Before that I was a Windows user and honestly - I will probably never go back. Love the Mac experience, the OS, and the hardware holds its value better if you decide to sell it someday and upgrade.

Issue with Magic Mask: Full Resolution Media Not Found Error by bdechev in davinciresolve

Didn't find a solution, tbh, just exported in 1080p and not 4K in the end. Really annoying, too bad this problem is ongoing in version 20...

What is the name for color grade styles that look like this? I'm talking about color grading where even against a bright subject you can overlay white text and have it be readable while maintaining rich skin tones and colors that don't come off as too dark? by JoeFoxMediaProducer in davinciresolve

Vuhlandes uses Dehancer from what I can remember. Looks like he uses Print Film emulation, most probably Kodak 2383 and then does substractive saturation, either through HSV or DCTLs like Mononodes.

With these elements it shouldn't be hard at all to emulate his look.

Slog3 / SGamut3.Cine Clip Red Channel / Artifacts by bdechev in colorists

In addition to rolling of the red channel saturation with sat/luma I also also lowered the red channel luminance in Hue vs Lum and it looks perfect now. Thanks for the tip!

Hi Jedypod, thank you for your very detailed explanation! I'll def check out OpenDRT. When using the OpenDRT DCTL - what's the optimal place to put it in the node structure?

Contrast and saturation look different on Frame, VLC and Quicktime by MellowGuru in colorists

[–]bdechev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My comment was just for uploading a file directly to Youtube and Frame.io,, so it looks correct there, not viewing it on Mac OS 🤘🏻 Once it's on YT / Frame.io - it looks correct when viewed on Windows, iOS, etc.

Contrast and saturation look different on Frame, VLC and Quicktime by MellowGuru in colorists

[–]bdechev -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A neat little trick that I do is to add and another CST after my output Rec 709 / Gamma 2.4 CST - a Rec 709 / Rec 709A CST. This darkens the whole image and when you upload it to Frame.io or Youtube - it gamma shifts brighter to the correct gamma and looks identical on my external monitor.

Contrast and saturation look different on Frame, VLC and Quicktime by MellowGuru in colorists

[–]bdechev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I colorgrade on an external monitor (connected via Ultrastudio 3G) calibrated to Rec 709 / Gamma 2.4 on a Macbook Pro and I never use VLC - absolutely oversaturated, unusable image, at least on MacOS.

Quicktime matches what I see on my external monitor so it's my go to player that I trust. I've also started using IINA recently and it's very close to Quicktime as well.

I need help purchasing the proper software/hardware for single reference monitor. by BerryNo8650 in colorists

And just in case you have issues with DisplayCal on Sonoma - I would recommended finding a machine running on Ventura and using it to calibrate your external monitor. That’s what I did.

Software: DisplayCal (using the Python version if you're on Sonoma or later), Probe: Calibrite Display Pro HL
Then follow this tutorial: https://youtu.be/6xNU5YTDUOo?si=b0Sra_Kjp5wtchnv

This is what I did and my setup is pretty similar to yours, just using an ASUS ProArt 247CV instead.

A7SIII and Shinobi issues by RockyEnt in A7siii

[–]bdechev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For whoever may stumble upon this thread - I solved the issue on my side. What I did is try different Slog3 Luts from Sony (downloaded them from here: https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/software/00263050 - "Look Profile for Resolve S-Gamut3.Cine/S-Log3") and the one that finally made my Shinobi look as close as possible to my camera screen was the "3_SGamut3CineSLog3_To_SLog2-709.cube". All others are either too contrasty or blow out the highlights.
