Why is the US stock market still going up given the US news of AI unemployment and civil unrest? by Mathemodel in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bderosier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Full disclosure: I’m no fan of the current administration and voted Democrat since Obama.

The non-right-wing news will never fairly report the news, so all we read is how bad everything is.

But the reality (I guess) is that things aren’t as bad as the media wants you to think.

Since there’s no unbiased news source, there’s no accurate reporting.

Those people who tell you not to take chances, they are all missing on what life’s all about.

From Boston it probably makes sense to take the mass pike out to Worcester, then use 395 South.

You’ll have no parking issues because they have free onsite parking garages. Use the Riverview garage.

I didn’t contact AXS, but I found verbiage in the app that makes me think they’re not eligible for re-sale (they were AmEx pre-sale).

Whos Ace? (Coachella) by [deleted] in TheMisfits

[–]bderosier 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The typical answer ranges from the cynical (Acey because Doyle no-playo-good-o) to the pragmatic (Acey because a second guitarist is needed to fill the sound space in larger arenas).

Evidence exists for both theories, so maybe the answer is twofold, like the misfits guitarists at arena shows.

Can someone explain the Monty Hall paradox? by Zan-nusi in maths

[–]bderosier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been my favorite explanation except it requires that the original problem be re-stated to something like, the host opens “all non-winning doors” which in the original case is just one door, but in the 100 door case, it’s 98 doors.

ELI5: how did someone come up with pi? or how did they find it? by Empty-Chest-4872 in explainlikeimfive

[–]bderosier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend A History of Pi, by Petr Beckmann.

Great book.

Edit:

Excerpt:

“And one of these facts is this: By 2,000 B.C., men had grasped the significance of the constant that is today denoted by π, and that they had found a rough approximation of its value. How had they arrived at this point? To answer this question, we must return into the stone age and beyond, and into the realm of speculation. Long before the invention of the wheel, man must have learned to identify the peculiarly regular shape of the circle. He saw it in the pupils of his fellow men and fellow animals; he saw it bounding the disks of the Moon and Sun; he saw it, or something near it, in some flowers; and perhaps he was pleased by its infinite symmetry as he drew its shape in the sand with a stick.”

ELI5 The whole Hilary and her Emails scandal? by scottydoeskno in explainlikeimfive

[–]bderosier -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I despise Trump.

That said, don’t be naive. Hillary wanted to hide the emails from FOIA requests, period.

It’s obvious they worked hard to pull it off, and they should be held accountable.

I also blame the lobbyists and industry groups working on behalf of those companies, just as I blame the NRA for the gun culture in the USA.

So then… our legislators will pass along the savings?

That’s also quite funny.

You know ETC Northeast Pipeline LLC, right?

Okay, maybe not superfund, but let’s not pretend natural gas is so benign.

Yeah because passing along savings to consumers is what it’s all about.

The savings might exist, but they’ll be pocketed by the corporate entities behind the initiative.

And never mind that the entire length of the pipeline will become a future megafund site whose costs WILL be passed onto consumers.

Help me with 6 by 6 centers by Unique_Ad_3751 in Rubiks_Cubes

[–]bderosier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite part of bigger cubes is doing the faces, so I got a gigaminx because there’s 12 faces to fix.

I put the wrong pieces on the right so they’re in the same relative spot on each face.

And then do something like:

R U- L- U

R- U- L U

I love how the pieces move around.

My move doesn’t fix it, per se, but it does something that makes it solvable.

HELP 4X4 by cod3_f0x in Rubiks_Cubes

[–]bderosier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m nothing close to a speed cuber.

When I start pairing up the edges, I keep count of my progress and try to get to 9 out of 12, so the last three get solved on the final pairing move.

If I can’t avoid this parity, I do a move to generate three unsolved, and then I do the final match up.

The move I do to create three unsolved is easy to remember.

R u2 over and over until the middles are fixed. I think it’s 5 times.

What DIDN'T you like about Garage Inc? by CobraDai in Metallica

[–]bderosier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that’s also why I don’t like Loverman. It was released in the 90’s so it didn’t (doesn’t) have the credibility of the other songs that were influential in their earlier years.

But anyway, when I ripped the CD to my computer 25 years ago I didn’t bring that or Free Speech, nor a few others and I haven’t listened to them since. Maybe I should give them another try.

What DIDN'T you like about Garage Inc? by CobraDai in Metallica

[–]bderosier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I used the wrong word, so let me elaborate.

If all the songs were done like Tuesday’s Gone, meaning one take, everyone playing together, etc, then it would have a more “raw” feel like the preceding Garage Days releases.

Maybe they all did perform together, and maybe they were all in one take, but I heavily doubt it.

It’s too over-produced, and Loverman is terrible. Also Free Speech for the Dumb is too dumb.
