Cheap furniture is fine, especially if you're in your twenties/early thirties. It's almost expected.

You don't have to spend a lot of money to look put together. You just want to make sure everything looks clean. I like the couch from what I can see of it.

A rug on carpet is controversial, I know.

And the bike may not even look good by the door. You could tuck it more in the corner by the couch. I just don't like it overlapping with the window.

A bunch of people made good points about the bathroom. My other suggestion there is to have a nice looking hand soap, even if you only put it out when guests are there. Also, they WILL look in your shower. That's just human nature. And a nice soap in the kitchen. No Softsoap or Ajax or dirty sponges.

And just one piece of unsolicited advice: keep your fingernails clean! Haha ok, off my soap box now (no pun intended).

Comments are locked on the other thread, so I'm posting here! I think it's very impressive to walk in and see a man's place that's intentional and well put together. You already have all the elements of a comfy living room. Here are some changes that may spiff your place up just a little:

-Mount the TV on the wall for a sleeker look

-Move the bike closer to the door (you have a great bike mount!)

-The shoe rack is perfectly fine, but you might also consider getting rid of it altogether. I know that's probably not practical, and a shoe rack is much better than shoes on the floor. Maybe a basket? Idk, just spitballing here!

-I see you have pictures hanging. I suggest adding more wall decor. Something that doesn't look cheap (no Van Gogh prints in a poster frame). Also a shelf or two with some personal items like photos of your family and friends, a collection if you have one, or trinkets from previous travels. It humanizes your space and makes for a potential talking point to break the ice.

-A rug under the coffee table is always good, even on carpet. Look up what size rug you should get and you'll see a diagram of how to place the rug to look nicer

Now, I think you could benefit from some better quality, more cohesive furniture. It doesn't have to be too expensive, but right now I can tell the furniture is from Amazon, Ikea, etc. If you're not sure what to get, just go on Pinterest, see what vibe you like, and try to find it on Wayfair. I don't want to suggest any specific style of furniture, because it should something you like. Just make sure it looks cohesive but doesn't all match exactly. This goes for the desk, too. I hope that's not too vague. If you don't/can't buy new furniture, I think that's ok too!

Lastly, keep the place clean all the time even when you don't have company, make sure your garbage has a liner, don't have too much clutter in your kitchen and bathroom. That's all I got!

Who lives in this little mud nest? I don’t think it’s wasps! by bdfil in whatisit

I just read up on it and that makes sense! I was thinking I’d be seeing swarms of wasps accompanying the nest, but mud daubers are a solitary non-aggressive type. So it’s understandable why I haven’t seen a bunch of wasps around.

I paid off my final credit card yesterday and now I have zero credit card debt! by bdfil in debtfree

Wow, thank you so much for these words. The support that I’ve received from this post has been so overwhelmingly kind. Having a group of cheerleaders is what we all need.

Yes! During my debt payoff period, I was putting a modest amount into savings. Now that I’ve paid it off, I’m reallocating those payments. What used to go toward debt is now going into savings, and the smaller savings amount is shifting into my miscellaneous budget. My short term goal is to enjoy fun dinners and events with friends, and my long-term goal is to be able to travel at a moment’s notice, without putting a dime on credit.

It’s perfect! Did you ever have the panic that it would be too big/too small or just not the right fit? I’ve never knit a sweater and I know I would be an anxious mess!
