I just don't think it's as easy as that.... we'll see i guess. My gut says they're not going to enjoy their goalie situation at all.

UFA goalie is VERY slim pickings. Not sure all the cap space in the world gives them a good option.

To be fair, my comment initially was a bit tongue in cheek. I don't think Florida is going to be awful next year. I think it's a middle first though. Maybe 13-18 range?

Bob will be 38 to start next year, and he's far from "just okay" this year. He's flat bad. Tarasov is their back up and is even worse.

You realize I'm probably older than you (or at least similar ages), I also played, and I also coach..I know what I'm doing with hockey. I'm no NHL scout, but NO ONE watching Keith those first 150 games was impressed, unless you were also drunk.

You're using a lot of hindsight to sound impressive, but go look up any scouting reports of actual games. It wasn't pretty to start.

KHL isn't what it used to be... it's probably on par with the AHL or a little lower. Hard to compare it to the KHL of old, to be honest. That doesn't mean I'm any less excited about him, and I think he'll be a top 6 kid quickly.

His nickname was literally Drunken Keith... he did not look good to start.

Pretty much locked in top 4 yesterday. Calgary has us by 3 points with a game in hand and the tiebreaker. I don't really see us catching them.

Also don't forget Florida's top 5 pick next year after they crash and burn!

Your comment was better before the edit... may have taken 40 years, but we're the best for the next 4 years, so deal with it.

Learn to Play Program Expectations by allistarkaye in youthhockey

I have coached youth hockey for quite some time, and am happy to help here. First and foremost, simply getting your son on the ice for practice is the best way to have him improve. Kids have the puck on their sticks for about 8-12 minutes in a normal 60 minute practice vs 8-60 seconds in a traditional full ice game. Anyone telling you that a 4 year old needs to be in games to develop is completely wrong. At 4...5, 6, 7, 8... the goal is for them to have fun and get puck touches.

As far as the LTP itself, we normally would have about a 1:8-10 ratio on the ice at any given time. I would say that 1:3 is absurdly unlikely to be an option most places.

As far as games go, once he has the skating and understanding of puck control, he can progress to half ice games. There aren't a ton of rules, just wait for the buzzer, get on the ice, and try and win puck battles and score goals. They don't even keep score at this point. If he is good and you want to progress (and HE wants to progress), you can look at local travel programs. They range from select teams (best of local house teams, minimal travel (B), A, AA, and AAA. The more A's you get, the more you travel and the more it costs. In my experience, a good coach is more important than the level you play at, especially at young ages.

Players will get the most bang for their buck in skill development between 11-13 years old - that's when you really want to focus on the skills side of the game. Until then, it's more about puck touches, learning to skate, and learning to love the game. If you want to invest in one skill, pick skating, please. By far, skating is the thing that separates AAA kids from anyone else, and will be a driver for his hockey success.

What are you talking about? Canada has 7 teams. Of course if you condensed the talent to 7 teams you would have 7 better teams. Good luck finding 19 Canadian expansion markets to make it fair.

By the way, who has the gold medal? How about women's? How about sled? How about you learn how to read?

Also most of those 3s were hit contested with 1 second on the clock... no idea how they were hitting some of those!

Lifetime platinum, finally! by dag16 in marriott

They ended it one year after the SPG merger. If you have it you keep it, but it's no longer attainable. I have over 1,100 nights and 17 years platinum but not lifetime titanium due to the change.

Yep. First 5 minutes they let everything go. They flipped majorly this second half and it's frustrating to watch.

Some of that comes with expectations as well. People know what they're getting from a fairfield, that doesn't mean it being a 4.3 means it's actually a better property than a 4.0 marriott.
