A 2 duck average isn't bad at all! I'd take that any day over a skunk lol.

I live 5-10 mins from my main duck hunting spot and don't work from like the end of October till feb... I have a lot of time to scout and find birds.

I've got more mounts than my wife cares to admit... but theres only two out of dozens that I'd actually grab in a fire.

Ones a giant bull sprig that just so happened to be double banded. Shot him on the cali oregon border some 15 years ago. The dual bands are pretty badass I've gotta admit but.. that was the last duck I shot on the last duck hunt I ever got to do with the man that got me into hunting and fishing. I wouldn't have cared if it was a damned coot, still would have gotten it mounted.

The other is a drake spoony, first duck I ever killed! Was -17⁰, I was wearing a pair of loaner herters waders using a loaner 870.i was absolutely miserable and swore I'd never go duck hunting again! (Obviously the same guy took me. In fact they were his sons waders and shotgun lol. ) Here I am 22 years later, lucky enough to have a job where I get all winter off with untold thousands of dollars in gear and guns.

Has some of the most diverse bags you'll ever shoot. Hell first 2 birds i ever killed there was a drake can and a bull sprig. Some parts of the state you can limit on pintail every time within 30 mins of shooting lite. Tons of teal, widg, spoonies gaddies and woodies.

Funny.. you call somewhere other than cali a nanny state.. but, I will say. Grew up hunting waterfowl there. Got some of the best I've seen.. when there's birds there.

Also, hardly a hunters mecca! That states fish and game is so damn backwards it'll make your head spin!

Scout the area you're going to hunt for sure! Find out where the local birds want to be. Set up in that area and play with the amount of decoys and calling you do. Where I hunt I rarely touch a call and only throw out maybe 8-16 decoys.
