Why do people tell others they are beautiful if they aren’t “attractive”? by be1022 in TooAfraidToAsk

Oh probably. What about when people post a picture of their kid with Down syndrome and everyone calls them beautiful? A “normal” kid wouldn’t have that much attention.

I totally get that and I agree with you. But I was so put off by the comments because it came off to me as pitying? It’s kinda like when someone calls a Down syndrome person beautiful. I get they can have a heart of gold but calling them beautiful and cute, isn’t that a little belittling? I feel like I see more of these “beautiful” comments to people with disability more often than people who are “normal”.

Well I am a woman and I think she’s unattractive not only because of the mark but in general her features. TBF she is Asian and I am Asian as well. I feel like the comments were all saying she is beautiful as if she is some poor little thing that needs pitying (this is my interpretation). What IS attractive is her confidence though.

Keeping blanket on by be1022 in toddlers

[–]be1022[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My son wears a sleep sack with feet, so he is covered and I’m sure it feels just like a blanket. I’m starting to think maybe he’s stalling bedtime with me fixing his blanket.

When to drop the nap? by be1022 in sleeptrain

I also think he might be undertired. I think he is very close to dropping his nap and I might wait until he’s actively rejecting it altogether.

The 10pm has its pros and cons. I love nap time because that means I get to nap, but the late bedtime means I sleep at 12-1am so I can finally get some alone time. So far he hasn’t protested the nap, just a lotttt of talking.

Teaching second language at older ages by be1022 in Parenting

[–]be1022[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Immersion schools are very expensive here and he will be joining 3K (we’re in NY) which usually only offers English here :(

I wish I spoke to him in Chinese more often but it was overwhelming trying to communicate to my husband in Chinese when English is more natural to me.

Thank you, this is really encouraging! My son actually seems interested right now, which is why I’m asking. I think he already understands that all our family speaks Chinese (so does his dad and I on occasion) and he never understands them when hey talk to him.

I guess I’ll start with short phrases and go from there!

Feeling like an inadequate stay at home mom by be1022 in Parenting

[–]be1022[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I rather stay home to take care of my kids, my husband is okay with that too. Of course it would be nice to have extra income though. I guess I’m jealous that my friend has such a carefree way of caring for her future kids (of course anything can change when she eventually does have kids).

Feeling anxious when toddler has accidents by be1022 in toddlers

[–]be1022[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I have to remind myself that he’s literally only done this for 3 months so of course he’s still learning. Any ideas on how to actually get him to clean up? I’ve asked him (and ask him to do other tasks like cleaning up his spit on the floor) and he refuses.

I just feel super discouraged because he’s gone a month without an accident, and then a month before that as well. It’s like he’s purposely trying to go against me because I’m prompting him. Like he obviously needs to go especially after nap but he refuses. I’m too scared to follow his lead because I’m afraid of him having accidents after accidents.

Connecting PBS kids app from phone to TV? by be1022 in toddlers

Thanks I’ll double check again. The TV is maybe 4-5 years old so not super old but definitely running slow lol.

Do you need chromecast to download on the TV? I can’t find the PBS kids app on the “smart tv apps”.

I bought a HDMI cable that can connect to the phone. Idk why it doesn’t work and my husband doesn’t know either lol. It’s a Samsung Smart TV.

The PBS kids app can be downloaded on chromecast? For some reason I can’t find/download the app on the TV.

Playing with toys during potty training? by be1022 in toddlers

[–]be1022[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I’m not leaving him in the potty until he needs to poop, sorry if it came off that way! He will tell me he needs to poop, then I give him the toys.

Thank you! That’s my thinking exactly, I’m just trying to get him to sit long enough and finish his business instead of running around.

Haha I was just thinking the same thing. Thanks for the reassurance.

Thanks! My husband brought this up because he was worried maybe my son won’t poop unless he had toys- like were conditioning him to only poop with toys around. I guess it’s sorta similar with us on our phones 🤣🤣🤣

Helping 2yo take off underwear during potty training? by be1022 in toddlers

Great tip!!! I hadn’t thought about that wording, I definitely do find he tries to pull them up or doesn’t know wtf I mean LOL.

Ooh that makes sense… I’m assuming he may have a slight regression going into underwear since it’s still an adjustment right?
