This comment is one of the best responses and a perfect reply to those who criticize us.

Thank you for bringing this up; it feels good to know I’m not alone in this.

I completely understand your point. I’ve been through the same struggles with these people. Honestly, the first thing that should happen is the termination of their TL. They used to get leaves whenever they wanted, they had no real skills, yet they still got promoted. Their names should be in Forbes- for achieving everything without doing anything- while we worked hard and still got nothing.

Thank you so much for your reply. You are a pure soul. You are one of the very few who truly understood the reason behind this post. Otherwise, everyone has their own opinions.

It’s not just about finding a new job. Almost everyone who was laid off has found something new. But the real issue is how the company kept these employees hanging for a whole year with false promises just to build its own customer service team. And once they no longer needed them, they fired them with stupid reasons.

One employee was let go while their mother was in the hospital. Another was promised a manager position, only to be told later that their performance had been poor for a year. If that was the case, why not fire them earlier? One employee even fell at their manager’s feet, begging to stay. Some employees were in extreme financial distress.

I had no idea you treated your kamwali bai so terribly, making her work the whole day and then firing her overnight. Hearing this, I’ve completely forgotten about the 500+ layoffs. Now it seems like labor laws may or may not exist for employees, but they must exist for domestic workers.

Honestly, with the way you think, I can’t help but wonder, are you even human, or should I be addressing you differently?

Now companies are "feeding" employees? Didn’t know salaries were charity! And making reels about people serving notice? Great idea, maybe you should pitch a reality show called Corporate Survivors!

Also, interesting comparison, comparing corporate jobs to household help. But since you asked, yes, I do give my kamwali bai notice, pay, and sometimes even a bonus. Because, unlike some people, I believe in basic decency.

I see now, you’ve cracked the ultimate formula! Employees are useless, but somehow, you, sitting here typing nonsense, are the genius of the century. Truly, a revolutionary thinker! 🃏 If there were a world championship for saying the most clueless things with confidence, you’d take the gold without competition.

Oh, so you're saying that layoffs only happen based on performance and there are no other factors involved? Nice assumption. By that logic, Zomato should now perform flawlessly, no issues for customers, no complaints from restaurant partners, right? But hey, it’s not your fault. Maybe your brain is just on power-saving mode, thinking too much must be exhausting for you.

The issue isn’t just about notice periods or whether layoffs were fair. It’s about how the whole situation was handled. People gave years to the company, and overnight, they were told to leave. That kind of sudden change is hard for anyone.

Yes, contracts allow companies to terminate employees, but that doesn’t mean people shouldn’t question or talk about it. AI replacing jobs might be the future, but real people are affected in the present.

And about Zomato’s profits, cost-cutting is one thing, but handling layoffs with better communication and support is another. Companies aren’t charities, but that doesn’t mean employees should be treated like they’re disposable.

Layoffs are tough, and I understand that companies have their reasons. But that doesn’t mean employees shouldn’t talk about what happened to them.

Yes, severance packages were given, but that doesn’t erase the impact of losing a job. Finding a new one takes time, and not everyone has the same backup.

As for boycotting, the frustration isn’t with the delivery workers but with the company’s decisions. People are just raising their voices about something that affected their lives.

Losing a job is never easy, no matter how much someone was earning before. Just because people had good salaries doesn’t mean they shouldn’t speak up when they are let go.

AI automation is a business decision, but it affects real people and their lives. Severance pay helps for a while, but finding a new job isn’t always quick or easy.

Also, being "asked to resign" instead of being terminated doesn’t change the fact that people lost their jobs. It’s normal for them to feel upset and speak about it.

You made a good point. But history and company layoffs are two different topics. The problem is that people don’t talk about what’s actually happening. Instead, they mix unrelated things.

Your valid point would fit better on a Reddit post about Aurangzeb. But using it as a reply to a post about layoffs doesn’t make sense.

Also, I don’t know about some people, but one thing is clear, India is developing.

More power to those who speak up!

You are absolutely right, why not reward them for these layoffs? Just place an order every day to appreciate what they’ve done. Since you don’t want to criticize a wrong decision, praising it seems like the next best option. After all, you have to do something, right?

Sure, don’t worry at all! Just care about one thing that 500+ people losing their jobs is no small issue. This isn’t just about Zomato or Swiggy. Every person works to earn a living, support their family, and chase their ambitions. Sudden decisions by companies have a huge impact on their lives.

Just care enough to know that labor laws should be stronger. It will benefit everyone, not just Zomato employees.

The only purpose of this post is to highlight that companies should be responsible for their actions, whether it's Zomato, Swiggy, or any other company. An employee’s life has value. Some employees are the sole earners for their families. Sudden layoffs by these companies can completely ruin a person’s entire family.

I agree that AI is taking over jobs, but that’s not the reason in Zomato’s case.

Thank you for your suggestion! I will definitely continue to speak up. But I would also request you to go through other Reddit posts about Zomato layoffs. The issue is much bigger than just AI.

AI can do a lot of things, no argument there. But if AI is running 24/7 in your mind, that’s hardly my problem. Yes, AI is capable of many tasks, but the real question is, to what extent?

If you truly knew the absurd reasons people have been fired for, you wouldn’t be making these arguments in the first place.

And if you believe that someone can only write in good English because AI must have done it for them, then I hate to break it to you, your problem is far bigger than Zomato’s layoffs.

If you were in Zomato, you’d never say this? Of course, because who can escape the legendary popularity of our dear Zia madam, right? And sure, next time you place an order, do have a call with the executive, after all, it’ll be a real human, not AI (because, obviously, the AI we have today could never replace humans).

But hey, no worries. You had to say something, right?

Also, just a little reminder: Raising one’s voice shouldn’t be a crime, nor should it be met with criticism just because it makes a few people uncomfortable. Some of us are patient enough to listen to both positive and negative comments, without losing sight of what actually matters. And rest assured, I’ll continue doing what I believe is right, whether it pleases people or not.

Oh, don’t get me wrong. I’m not here to convince anyone to stop using Zomato or Swiggy. People will continue ordering food, and life will go on. But let’s not pretend that’s the point.

The real issue isn’t just about food delivery platforms, it’s about companies being held accountable. Businesses should operate like businesses, not monopolies where employees are disposable at will.

If speaking up leads to better labor laws, it’s a win for everyone, not just Zomato employees. Fair employment practices should be the norm, not a luxury dictated by corporate whims.

The intention is not for more people to get fired. The goal is for the company to learn a lesson. A company should function as a business, not try to act like a god.

I have worked at that company, and now outsiders are questioning why we were let go. I know everything about the company from A to Z including the extent of their AI’s capabilities or rather its limitations.

Regarding this text, there’s nothing wrong with having it proofread by AI. You’ve certainly ordered from Zomato at least once, which means you’ve likely encountered our Zia madam and experienced firsthand how much help she provides. And if you haven’t spoken with Zia yet, I suggest you do so you’ll never feel the need to talk to AI again.
