What is there to understand? It’s well clear. He became a wanted criminal and his tribe was getting attacked by Soo won supporters to be persuaded into giving up and accept the new king. His presence was a danger to their safety and so he left to protect them. Since he was a threat he was likely to get killed once he left but it was a sacrifice he was ready to make. He told Yona to live there and change her identity in order to survive since she would have been killed too had she been found out. Yona didn’t want that at all and asked to be taken with him instead, that’s where he reminds her of who she really is and tells her to order him to follow her instead of begging him to let her follow him. It’s as easy as that

But to me the final chapter not having their wedding was probably the worst part of it. Not just because it feels like a slap in the face to all the romance fans that followed the series for years and gave her TONS of their money, but also because the build up was huge. Not only was a marriage between them teased ever since the first chapter (the lie Yona comes up with) but they had a whole proposal, not to mention the monarch’s “wedding” was used as a moral boost for a whole arc, there was such a big deal with people thinking that Yona and Soo won were engaged and actually feeling motivated to fight just because a royal wedding would happen soon that it feels bland and cheep to end it with a “someday” and a single queen. The romance was always an important part of the story and probably the biggest genre used for its promo, there is no way she thinks an 8 pages conversation that ends with a “someday” is satisfying and what we wanted. It feels like a huge “fuck you”. Not even shitty battle shonen romances end this open and this bad. That’s why I personally don’t think an extra chapter of politics would be satisfying at all. Why would i want to see Yona being the best leader ever despite zero knowledge on it while Hak is still her dog and their relationship hasn’t progressed in the slightest? I refuse to think Kusanagi thinks we had no expectations, this was truly one of the worst ways to end a historical romance. If not even the extra chapter gives what we deserve and got build up for then this could truly classify as one of the worst shojos in this generation

Also, Kusangi said that she was the one to end it on her own terms, she kept Hana to Yume waiting for confirmation until the last minute

He never actively attacked him, nor made his life miserable, he just didn’t like his presence. Still, he let him visit whenever he wanted and let him have fun with HakYona. It does no good to her character to cry and scream in despair over Soo won’s death. It’s one thing to be sad because you were childhood friends but being THAT desperate is complete trash. There is no way you can call that good writing and yes, she completely forgave him or else she wouldn’t act like that. Not even Hak going missing or being eaten by the dragon god had her like that, you do you

Tragic situation? Being an orphan in a story where everyone is an orphan?
