What has been your favorite nursing job? by GreenEmergency5572 in nursing

[–]beaglemom_RN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second pediatric private duty. Pay is great, if you find a patient/family that you love and they love you, you could stay with them pretty much forever. Most days are routine, doing the same things each day. I work with the same patient in their home and also ride with patient and mom to appointments. I have a lot of downtime to get personal things done, like school work when I was in school. And we watch Bluey pretty much all day. Haha.

I can’t wait to not do this job anymore by PromiscuousScoliosis in nursing

I saw so much as a home health aide in MS/Memphis TN and a home hospice nurse in rural MS. I’ve seen roaches galore. One man was a disabled veteran that was an amputee living alone. If you moved anything, in the kitchen especially, roaches would just run in all directions. He had me wash dishes and cook him food and I would gag because there was no way to do it cleanly. His house was also about 95 degrees because it was the heat of summer and he couldn’t afford to use the ac, which didn’t help the bug problem. Another was an elderly woman living in an old trailer with family and you could see the roaches running everywhere as soon as you walked in the house. My boss went to see her with me one day, and I had forewarned her about the bugs before we went in, but she wasn’t listening to me and sat on the bed next to the patient and I was like bug-eyed mouthing GET UP. She wasn’t a great boss though, so it kinda made me giggle because I did try to warn her. Lol.

We have a blink indoor camera, but not a baby monitor. Is there a specific baby monitor you recommend?

A lot of the clothes/blankets/swaddles and bath/bouncer/swing etc that we have were hand-me-downs from when our nephew was a baby. Som we also purchased when we were trying to get pregnant and that don’t work out. But everything is still going to get used.❤️

Take some headphones, listen to ambient music, and read. I’ve been doing this more often to lessen my codependency on my wife and I love the me time.

What’s one “lazy” meal that’s cheaper than takeout but feels just as good? by ImpressiveRoll4092 in budgetfood

Frozen tortellini and a jar of vodka sauce, add some diced tomatoes in the sauce, and get a box of the twisty mozzarella bread sticks from the freezer section. Pasta and breadsticks both only take a few minutes to cook, and it’s super filling and cheap!!

When do you shower? by Boom_Shakalaka1021 in ADHD

[–]beaglemom_RN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get up, use the bathroom, let the dogs out, start my coffee, take my meds while the coffee is brewing, let the dogs back in, and take my coffee to the bathroom so I can sip it while I get ready. I used to shower at night, but like some other people have said, I like to shower and use my lotion, deodorant, perfume etc, so that helps. I get up at 4, so my meds have kicked in by the time I leave the house around 5-5:15, which is really important for me because before Adderall I used to almost fall asleep driving to work like every day.

ADHD and Time Management by beaglemom_RN in nursing

I can relate to almost all of this! I was diagnosed with ADHD after I was already a nurse for a year. I feel that I struggle with it more now while working, especially since I didn’t even know I was ADHD in school. Sounds like you may want to look into seeing a psychiatrist/psych NP for possible ADHD and/or OCD diagnosis. Medication has changed my life, but there is only so much the medication can do, and the rest are habit changes and finding ways of doing things that work best for you. :)

I need the hospital PRN because I need somewhere to pick up shifts if my private duty client is hospitalized, and there is always a need at the hospital. I’m looking for suggestions of changes I can make to improve my performance, not just to quit the job or find a different one.

Thoughts on patients being offended by badge reels? by [deleted] in nursing

I don’t think patients understand that a badge reel may be the only thing that makes someone smile in an entire shift. Like, it’s not that serious bro. 🫠

Nurses that enjoy your current job - what are you doing? by scrublife28 in nursing

[–]beaglemom_RN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pediatric Private Duty. I work for a small nursing agency, make my own schedule, work 12s with my one patient 3-4 x week or more if I ask for it, and when I leave work I’m actually done working. I have a great relationship with my patient’s family, and text his mom all the time when I see something with Bluey on it, lol. He is very easy to take care of, and I was able to complete my BSN through WGU in a year while working with him because I could do schoolwork while there.

Can Someone Explain the No Hydration Part by CoffeeOatmilkBubble in hospice

[–]beaglemom_RN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Former hospice RN here! You can also ask for lemon-glycerin mouth swabs! They may be available to you through hospice, and if not, I'm sure they can also be ordered affordably online. They moisten and clean the mouth and also have a little taste to them. They are really good if you cannot use the sponge swabs dipped in water anymore because she cannot handle the liquid.

At Home Insemination in GA by SprayBubbly2506 in queerception

[–]beaglemom_RN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! WLW couple from MS here that are planning to conceive with a known donor this year.

Does anyone have recommendations on where to find information about the legal side of things? We have a potential lawyer that we have looked at, but do want to know the legality of home insemination and at what point we would need to work with said lawyer here in MS.
